Alpha Win Ocala Triathlons Cancelled

“Due to low registration numbers…”

Not sure of long term plans moving forward.

Jan. 12 is the Alpha Win Sarasota race and we are scheduled to have record arctic cold between 15-19°f which I’m sure will cause issues for that race as well.

I believe this is the old HiTS series which often hosted about 10 folks for their ironman distance races. I guess you can get lower than 10… (-;
But honestly it has marveled me how this series kept going all these years with low numbers from day 1. The rich guy that got it all started was tenacious, have to give that to him. But of course he had an in with most of the cities and got rubber stamped for permits and such. His horse competitions would bring in so much money to the local economy, no cities wanted to mess with that end of his business, so I imagine threw him bones for his pet triathlon projects.

They were/are great cheap ways for some of us to get in a local race though, wonder if this is going to trickle down to the entire series. I see they have a date at the Wildflower course the week before the actual Wildflower race, that cannot be good timing to get #'s to your race…

I have done 2 Apha win triathlons

I will NEVER do another one

Yes it is the old HITS series

It had such a bad reputation that when the son of the owner of the horse competitions took over, he changed the name.

I am not surprised the number of racers continued to get lower to the point of having to cancel this race.

I did 2, and would do them again…

I did my very first 70.3 the La Quinta location race in 2014. What you say aligns with what I witnessed. It started off so strong and the 70.3 distance I was in had about 400 entrants I believe. That was a time when triathlon was hitting a peak and they had races all over the country - I still have some of the shirts the list of events was so long. I had a good memory that 2014 one was decently supported and nice aid stations.

I went back the following years and each year things got more watered down and low budget. My claim to fame I ended up as the “cover boy” you had to click on for the 2016 photos.

They filled a nice gap until the Ironman corp went on a shopping binge during the 2010s. There are some races I never got to do as they went extinct. Good times, good memories. Finally did an Ironman event (oceanside) and I really felt you get your money’s worth.

Cal Tri has picked up a lot of the abandoned races here in California.

I did havasu and la quinta. Both had on site camping options which I did. Somewhat of a wildflower experience for me. You can also do the 70.3/140.6 then next day sprint/olympic. I tried to do a double but my bike was locked in our van

Yeah there are some races I’m bummed I never got to experience.
