I raced this last weekend for the first time since my accident last year. Yes, I did well, Yes, I pushed myself hard. . .But just being out there was awesome. The joy of competing really does take on a new meaning when you are given solid proof of how quickly it can be taken away from you. Hell, I even enjoyed the swim. . .and I HATE the swim! I might even have gotten over that dislike. . . I’m finding myself looking forward to even the most drudge-laden workouts again. . .
congratulations, man! as one of the walking wounded who’s just getting back into training now, it’s success stories like yours that help me deal with the pain. i’m happy for you.
Good to be back in the game, eh?
I crashed fifteen months ago. Broken collarbone, geeked my back, frozen shoulder… Couldn’t swim worth spit for eight months, and swimming is my primary.
It feels great to be back and I’ve entered a shitload of races this year. Lots of sprints and 10Ks along with three half IMs. I’ll even be doing the swim for an Oly relay a week after my next half.
Is there life after triathlon? I think not.
