This past weekend, a race official summoned me and told me that I would not be able to use my aero helmet (LAS chronometer) because it didn’t have a CPSC sticker and he said because it was made in Italy it obviously wasn’t CPSC certified. This was about 15 minutes before the start so I didn’t put up a fight and was lucky enough a spectator on his bike let me use his road helmet.
Anyways, my favorite bike shop said they could get me a Limar Speed Demon http://www.limar.com/site/prodotto.php?lng=eng&id_product=17&id_cat_now=11 for $100/new. I know there are much newer and probably better aero helmets out there and I am just an average age grouper. Would you recommend the Speed Demon to race with?
It’s a fine helmet (better than the LAS), but it’s so rare here in the US there probably won’t be much aero data on it (and helmets are pretty variable with body position).
I have that helmet (LAS Chronometro) and it has a CPSC sticker in it.
I have used it at an WTC race, they checked it and said it was OK.

If he bought it in Europe, it probably had the CE sticker instead of the CPSC. It may be the same helmet (though not always…CE is an easier standard so sometimes they drop the weight a bit), but w/o the CPSC sticker it’s a no go at US races.
I actually picked it up from the ST classifieds about 4 years ago, so I don’t really know where it was originally purchased from. It does say it was manufactured in 2006 though. I guess it is possible the sticker fell off, but those stickers (in the picture) are so big that I don’t think they were there.
