Anyone here has experience with AA road bikes at all? They seem to be very nicely made, really light (very useful since I live in a super hilly part of Florida) and with good components.
Thoughts?
They are beautiful to look at. Quite a few of my friends have (and/or had) Allied bikes. The paint is stunning. The lines are classic. Personally, I’d be looking at the All-road instead of the road bike. Friends of mine that have both (road and all road) say that the all road corners extremely well, and it’s nice to be able to put a decently wide tire on it.
I think i heard that the 2021 bikes are matte colors, so if you like the Skeeter Bass Boat look you’ll have to buy used.
For the money, I’d probably lean towards something aero and light like a SuperSix or 3T Strada Due, but that’s just me. The Allied has a much higher “cool” factor than the cannondale, but i wouldn’t expect the Allied to win any wind tunnel shootouts.
I own a rim brake Alfa and like it quite a bit. The paint job get compliments wherever I am and the components are decent (full Ultegra). I came from a Look 586 RSP and geometry on the Allied is much more race oriented. I have a bit of toe overlap which is slightly annoying, but I make sure and keep the pedals vertical when making tight turns. Lastly, the “plus” option of having a little more headtube for less flexible folks like me is nice.
I highly recommend if you want a road bike that has responsive steering and an aggressive geometry.
I live in Arkansas so Allied is very popular here. Ive had their Alfa roadie for 4 years and can’t say enough good things about the bike and the company. Yes, they’re expensive, but when compared to other boutique carbon frames they’re middle of the road price-wise. My only regret is not getting the All-Road model instead of the Alfa. I’d love the option to put on a gravel wheelset and dabble in some dirt every now and then.
Other boutique carbon brands i’ve looked at are Pursuit Cycles in Bozeman, MT and Argonaut cycles in Bend, OR. Both are more expensive than Allied, though.
