My chocolate lab is my training partner and I tell everyone, if he could ride a bike, he probably could qualify for IM Hawaii ( in the M5-9 AG)!! He’s a tremendous swimmer and can run circles around me. One time I took him on a 20mi run with me and as we got close to home, I was feeling a little sorry for him thinking he was tired. Well we came to this baseball field and he took off like a mad man, picked up a water bottle and started running all over the field with it. Just then, I figured he should have been feeling sorry for me, because I WAS SO TIRED!! He’s a tremendous motivater.

Let the flame begin…but could someone enlighten me on doggie fitness. I’ve seen many dogs swim and most are pretty “panicky” in the water regardless of their speed. Would seem that the HR is going throught the roof.
With that said, is this safe to run a dog in the middle of the water? My gosh, I couldn’t live with myself if the poor guy started spazzing out or took in some water.
I’m all for being buddies with your dog, but I’m quite certain Jake didn’t have much clue he was going to be swimming 1.2 miles that morning. Fetching, fine. Endurance swim, I dunno…seems to cross the line until someone can explain any different…

I don’t care about the dog. It’s those damn sneaky fast turtles that piss me off.
I’m afraid it would be “no contest”, he’s a field lab which are much BIGGER and stronger than a "normal " lab. PLUS he hasn’t been neutered, so he’s ALL MAN. In fact, he’s the “main man”.
