The last thing this place needs is to go full fledged phpBB. That creates so many problems is crazy.
With 11000+ registered users, it’s probably already a bear to manage this place!
although it makes it easier to track some here who use different handles and IPs…
we have almost 20k on 3si with no problems besides the server is on a computer made like in 1990 lol.

I don’t know, I wouldn’t want to see it. And I can’t explain why. I’m on another site which uses avatars, and I have a pic there (not of me, 99% of the people there use other pics or cartoons), and it’s somewhat dorky.
The worst thing, though, would be the smiley-face buttons. Please, Dan, no smileys.
But hooray for making images play nice with FireFox.
Oh, the other thing that sucks is having the number of posts ever made appear beneath a user’s name on the front page. Not like in the profile, but on every post. That seems to just drive people to make a lot of posts that say:
“Just padding the post count”.
“again!”
“only 2,987 to go before i reach 20,000!”
Actually now I’m at 489 posts.
