All of these esoteric things like dimples, etc

Okay- they aren’t esoteric if four seconds is the difference between a payday and a pink slip. But for the average age grouper, it could possibly be meaningless.

But all of this dimple crap begs the question: when is the UCI going to crack down on dimpling, et. al.? The development costs COULD prevent the technology from being acessible to the poorer teams from poor countries. That’s what the UCI used as their arguments for cramping innovation in bike design.

Not really. The poorer teams could simply glue golf balls to their bike frames. Cheap form of dimple enhancement.

I hate being an apologist for the UCI and think a lot of their decisions are silly, but they site safety, economy, and competitive fairness as reasons for most of their rules.

Styrrell

If you’re fast enough the best products will be available to you, period (I think). If you’re not, then it doesn’t matter anyhow. No?

No. The UCI will wait until the masses have all converted to dimpled products, companies will have invested their entire fortune in it, people have sworn to ride them, times will get faster, and then they will ban it.
How else could they effectively rain on everybodies parade?
