As with all races, it depends on which part of the pack you are with…if you are in a pack of misguided swimmers, you’ll be in trouble. Indeed, seek comfort in the numbers game but do not soley rely on that—do your own sighting always.
One year doing this race, I recall seeing on the transition run after the swim a large group of swimmers fighting against the tide to make it into Aquatic park…granted, this wasn’t this particular version of the race, but the point is clear…It’s a relatively easy swim (all things being equal) if you aim far enough left to let what current there is help you along in the latter portion.
