Anybody get a chance to hear or read Al Gore’s recent tirade? Can he be taken seriously anymore?

.
What in particular irks you guys?
The fact that he points out that the war in Iraq hasn’t been the slam dunk we were promised it would be?
What exactly?
I have never taken Al Gore seriously, but I don’t know what you find objectionable about the speech. I don’t agree with every jot and tittle, but in the main, it sounds solid. It sounds a lot like what conservatives often say, in fact.

Nothing neccessarily “irks” me about algore. I just have a hard time taking him seriously anymore. He was a one time respected senator and vice president of the US. Since the 2000 election I personally feel he has gone off the deep end. Did you read the entire text? I will give you an example.
*In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, there was - at least for a short time - a quality of vividness and clarity of focus in our public discourse that reminded some Americans - including some journalists - that vividness and clarity used to be more common in the way we talk with one another about the problems and choices that we face. But then, like a passing summer storm, the moment faded. *
I mean come on. How can he possibly believe there was a vivdness and clarity surrounding the coverage and discourse over Katrina? Then to compare that discourse to a “passing summer storm”? Thats just a single example. He rambles in so much of the speech and to me just doesn’t make sense.
First, I am not a huge fan of Al Gore. To me, listening or watching him is like watching paint dry. However, I read his speech and enjoyed parts of it. The passage you quoted seems odd out of context, but it made perfect sense to me as I read the entire speech.
Can you take anyone seriously anymore? Gore? What’s he have to do with anything? Start with Bush, work down, and tell me when you find someone that speaks the truth. I can hardly wait for that name.
Don’t you understand? He was VP at a time when the Pres was getting a bj in the oval office.
Why do you hate blow jobs?
Al Gore invented the opportunity to slam Al Gore online. Deep. Very Deep.
It was attempt to sound like he is still a player, but the bitterness overwhelms the speech.
Further, I really enjoyed the part where he referred to Rush as a hate monger, this coming from a guy with segregationist family roots who also said the following about Prez. Bush:
“He betrayed this country! He played on our fears! He took America, he took America on an ill-conceived foreign adventure dangerous to our troops, an adventure that was preordained and planned before 9-11 ever took place!”
While I don’t think Rush is a hate monger, I don’t see what Gore’s “family roots” have to do with much of anything.
With regards to the quote, at least this portion of it is true: " . . . He played on our fears! He took America, he took America on an ill-conceived foreign adventure dangerous to our troops, an adventure that was preordained and planned before 9-11 ever took place!”
I don’t agree with you, but I think Gore is too pathetic to argue about so you win.
What do you find pathetic about him?
It isn’t a question of disagreeing with me, it’s a question of disagreeing with clear and obvious facts. Bush did play on our fears after 9/11 to get us into Iraq. It is dangerous to our troops. It was preordained before 9/11.

A bad experience involving teeth.
I thought his praise of the coverage of Katrina is amazing given that we now know that it was virtually 100% factually incorrect.
The theme of the talk was about getting a two way dialog and how TV crushes that. Well, OK. Then he goes on to ignore internet forums like this that provide that exact forum and ignores talk radio except for his slime toward Limbaugh as a hate monger.
If you are going to deplore the quality of the public debate and include personal attacks in the speech, do you think you ought to at least back up such attacks? Not in Gore’s case.
The whole thing was a plug for his network which is going to be different somehow in that it will be a two way discussion. Right. TV isn’t the medium for that Al, your network will fail, and if you want two way dialog, get with the program and do a radio talk show.
He won’t do that though, because no one could listen and stay awake. It would be a traffic hazard if offered in drive time.
Post score:
one point for fabrication (there was a storm)
one point for misdirection (it wasn’t about his network).
zero points for links to Michelle Malkin, Newsmax, etc.
zero points for self-contradiction
Two marks total.

Al Gore invented the blow job.
