I just noticed this today, but on the rev3 website it has a breakdown of the age group prize purse. Looks like they are giving $20,000.00 in prize money. $4,000.00 for first place male and female and then on down the scale from there. Whats really funny is that this is greater then what some races pay for first place to their pros. I didnt realize that rev3 even had age group money.
Pretty sure that prize money only comes if you get that place in the series. So if you do all 3 races and end up winning the series you get 4000. Which comes down to about 1,300 per race.
Still pretty darn good for an age grouper.
A nice precedent. I don’t understand why local races don’t offer more/better prizes. I know they are expensive to put on, but in my area there are a few of us consistently near the top that race a lot. It would be nice to get some prize money to at least offset the cost of entry. This has only happened once. I won the overall at the Metroman in Asbury Park and got $100. The exact cost of entry. I would be a big fan of overall podium winners getting the cost of entry covered at a minimum as it really supports the AG racers who aren’t quite at pro level but still dedicate a large portion of their lives to the sport. Bike races pay out small, but comensatory amounts in most if not all categores AND seem to have cooler prizes… Just my opinion, but after 15 races this year with more to come those entry fees start to add up…
that is HUGE.
If people are willing to take drugs and cut courses for a .25c medal, imagine what they would do for $50.
i also thought that AG prize purse (combined) was limited to 4999?
I think the 4,999.00 is correct for a single race that doesnt offer a pro prize purse (or something like that). Because this is part of a series, I think they are allowed to offer the age group money. i could be mistaken. Are there any other races that pay age groupers?
ToughMan has 4500 , and no pro purse I think.
