Affordable Bluetooth headphones

Basically I’m sick of ripping my wired ear buds out of my ear on the trainer, and I find the cord annoying on runs. Anyone reccomend a good pair of cheap bluetooth headphones?

There are lots of really cheap BT headphones coming onto the market. Just saw Vivitar earbuds at Fry’s yesterday for $15 (also at Amazon). Quality is all over the place though. YMMV…widely.

Personally, I have a pair of the Plantronics Backbeat Fit (below). Not cheap ($82 at Amazon), but they work really well: https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-BackBeat-Fit-Wireless-Headphones/dp/B00KJLMBSO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483140281&sr=8-1&keywords=plantronics+bluetooth+backbeat+fit

I’ve got those and they’re brilliant. 7 hours plus running time, water resistant and they are rock solid on my ears. Can’t fault them. They can pick up music from 15m away and from different rooms.

I am using a $8 Bluetooth clip-on adapter with my normal earphones:

Works well and I can plug in the earphones should the charge run out.

I will also recommend the Plantronics Backbeat Fit. Although Bluetooth with my older iPod Touch could be a bit spotty when the device was in a back pocket of a cycling jersey, I have had next to no issues when paired with my iPod Nano running outside, riding cx bike on rough terrain in 95+ degree heat with stupid high humidity, on the treadmill at the gym, as well as on the bike riding the trainer at home. Probably the only downside is when it is hot and you get sweat in the ear canals and a somewhat short 6-hour battery life, that I have had reduced to as little as 2-2.5 hours while listening with volume near max riding on the trails!

i’m using these, nice and cheap and the job, also in ear so saves adjusting them constantly !

Just got a pair of these for xmas and they are awesome so far: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01GNYFT8E/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483146542&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=taotronics+bluetooth+headphones&dpPl=1&dpID=31EklAXKTxL&ref=plSrch

The sound quality is not as good as my wired Bose headphones but they are more than adequate for running.

Another vote for the Plantronics Backbeat Fit. Sound quality is good, you can still hear traffic, good battery life. Costco has them on sale for $55 in the coming ad.

Go with Bose. I think $149 is affordable. Dont go too cheap…

Go cheap. Seriously.

I use this thing. It’s $17 bucks shipped and sounds awesome.

Not only that - I killed a pair through sweat (I kill lots of pairs by sweat - 4 Jaybirds, including 2 sets $100+ in the past, so it’s not just cheapness of the earbuds) and these cheap brands have THE best and fastest return policy.

Compare:

Soundpeats: Emailed them saying I killed my earbuds, and they sent me a new one no questions asked, got it in 2 days.

Jaybird: 5 week turnaround time every time. Get an RMA#, pack and send your set back to them at your cost, wait 2 more weeks, wait another 10 days before the replacements gets back to you.

I’d expect all the expensive brands to have slow turnaround times like Jaybird since they’re less likely to devalue their product by just happily saying “I’ll send you a replacement for free in 2 days.”

THe sound quality on these cheapos is every bit as good as my pricey Jaybirds, which horrifies me in a good way. The earhooks are great, by the way - I can’t even use the nonearhook ones anymore since they always loosen at some point while running. The only mild ‘bummer’ is that there’s more wind noise from the larger body of the device on each ear, but it’s a nondealbreaker.

Lots of good recommendations. You don’t need to spend much to get good headphones. When you buy something like Bosy, you’re paying big time for their marketing. I was in the audio biz for many years and know that almost invariably, the bigger the name, the worse the value.

I bought these a few months ago and they’ve been great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GDIUA8Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They were only $39 when I bought them whereas they seem to be more expensive now. They’ve been reliable, stay in the ears well, sound quality is good enough, they’re sweatproof and come with a ton of ear pieces. Previously I’ve had Jabra’s that had better sound quality but in 5 months I had 4 sets die on me. I made the switch back to corded earphones (cheap old Yurbuds) that have been awesome but now tried these. I would definitely recommend to try a cheap set that gets lots of great reviews on Amazon before buying a big name brand for 5 times the cost.

I have a pair of Bose Sound Sports that I’ve been happy with. Granted, I’ve only had them for a month but they have been great on the trainer and outside (during periods of low traffic). 6 hour battery life, in ear mount, water and sweat resistant. They don’t block out all sound so you can hear ambient noise. i.e. approaching cars etc. Downside is they are $150.

A similar option that I have heard good things about is the BTS line from 66 audio. There is a sweat/water resistant over the ear headset for about $60 with a 30 hour battery life and a 100 foot range. There’s a pricier version with upgraded electronics, and a 40 hour battery life for $150 ((bought them for my dad for Christmas and he seems happy so far.))

I recommend the Soundpeats as well. I’m using the QY8 model about 4 times a week on my trainer. For $20 or so, I don’t have to worry about killing them with sweat or dropping them on the floor when I’ve finished. I can’t comment on the battery life as I plug them in to recharge after every session.
For listening to music or Netflix on the trainer, I’d say the sound quality is plenty good enough.

I can’t specifically recommend a pair, but for headphones, I find the best thing to do is buy them at Best Buy and purchase the protection plan. (It’s around $10 additional.) Then, when your headphones inevitably break, Best Buy replaces them no questions asked. I usually avoid those protection plans, but I cycle through headphones so frequently, it made perfect sense.

I have tested few bluetooth headsets with RF meter, those things output as much radiation as microwave front door at 5cm distance. I would never put that crap over my head, let me family “suffer” with basement speakers…

It’s not very affordable, but I really like my Jaybird Freedom headphones.

Wife and I upgraded to iPhone 7 so needed some BT headphones. I tried three different pairs from Amazon, found these and we are both happy.

Cheap, so no worries if they get killed with sweat or get lost. The sound is surprisingly good, not as good as my Bose wired headphones but very good for the price. They don’t like to transit through walls very well, but I keep the phone in a pocket and it works fine.

I bought these…great for the bike…not so much for running. The move around a bit (i am guessing due to the size of them) so the sound sort of “oscillates?” when running. Still don’t regret the purchase…they are great on the bike and I use a trusty waterfi iPod nano for running…which has lasted 3+ years…after destroying 3 nano’s from sweating.

Get the other Soundpeats with earhooks that I posted above in my link.

I own both sets (earhook vs nonearhook) and the earhooks work GREAT for running, whereas the nonearhooks are constantly falling out. (I wore a head/earband over the nonearhook ones for awhile just to hold them in, don’t need that with the earhooks.)
