Aerohelemet - want one - whats state of the art

I am going to buy an aero helmet for LD racing. LG or? Whats the current status?

adal,

I saw the latest from LG in person recently.

Their top of the line aero helmet looked pretty impressive. I have a Prologue and didn’t think I would upgrade. How much faster would I be when I already had an aero helmet to start with?

But I have to say, I want one. It really looked fast. The cost was $189 USD I believe. Right up there with the Giro Atmos helmet.

They also make a less expensive, $80-$90 USD version of this same helmet without the aero skirt on the trailing end. This makes it considerably less expensive than the Prologue. Aero wise, it is probably pretty close to the Prologue.

The top of the line version did look like it was state of the art for us mortals who were not in the pro peleton.

For long distance, however, this helmet didn’t afford much cooling for the noggin! This might be a BIG issue on a warn day with a long bike leg. What you gain in areo-ness you may lose many times over for baking your brain in such a basically non vented helmet. Yes I know there are three little slits in the helmet for venting airflow. This is identical to the Prologue in this regard. Who is fooling who here? The airflow through the helmet is very limited to nonexistent. The Prologue helmet is very hot. The new top of the line helmet and entry level helmet will be identical to the Prologue in this respect. I blind myself in sweat when using the Prologue in time trials even with a sweat band under the helmet. I would never consider or think of wearing it in a long distance road race for this reason.

FWIW.

And I thought the new modell (Rocket) is too much material on the side for long distance …

I am thinking of the prologue as my reference, don’t want any more material. Lighter would be nice.

adal,

I was editting my first post as you wre replying to me. You should reread my post for my additional comments.

If you mean “state of the art” in terms of aerodynamics, taping over the holes on your regular helmet probably works just as good as anything else. But in terms of cool factor, the new LG certainly looks very sharp.
