Aerobar with Bontrager Race XXX Lite (Road)

I have the Bontrager Race XXX Lite handbars on my Trek Madone 5.2.

The Bontrager website indicates that clip on aerobars are not compatible with these handlebars, which I presume is due to the shape of the bars.

Is anyone aware of any type of aerobar that would work with these, or am I totally out of luck?

The shape looks kinda funky here…

The good news is that there are TONS of handlebars on the market that will accept clip-ons and they will cost WAY less than your XXX’s.

I have a set of Bontrager XXX Lite Carbon Aerobars 31.8. They have never been used.

I’ll sell them for $325. PM me if you want them.

Profile design’s stem mounted aerobars or Oval’s face plate system.

Each would allow you to keep your bars but require a different stem.

The shape isn’t consistent as they taper to a narrower size about an inch or two away on either side from where the stem attaches.

I really like the handlebars, I was just hoping to put some aerobars on for some sprint tris.

I don’t want to change the whole set up as I do some longer road rides, so just curious as to what others have done if they found themself with the same situation, as there are a lot of Madone owners.

With Trek’s recent stem/steer tube problems, I wouldn’t clamp ANYTHING to their carbon stuff. Maybe a bike computer

Thanks for the suggestion, just what I was looking for.

I think I may try out the profile lightning stryke carbon aerobars which clamps to one of their stems.

not because of the shape, but because the carbon isn’t reinforced at the point where clip-ons would normally go. I’ve seen a few guys try to put clipons on carbon bars that are not designed for clipons, and the results are not pretty.

if you want clipons, then swap the bar for an aluminium one, and you’ll be good.

JasoninHalifax nailed it.
