Aero seatpost standardization

Any of my garage-full of bikes will take a round 27.2mm seatpost. Any brand fits in any bike, and they all interchange. Is there ANY interchangeability among aero seatposts yet? Should there be?

Aero posts by Profile, U.S.E., Giant etc will also fit into your 27.2mm seatpost frames. Though I assume you’re referring to the likes of Kestrel, Litespeed and Cervelo aero posts.

Some aero posts like Giant, Profile etc. are designed to fit into a standard round 27.2 seat post. Others are shaped to fit an aero seat post, so there is no standardization in these ones.

As far as I know, there is no interchangeability. Each company has their own system for clamping that they think is better than the rest. I have a feeling it will always be manufacturer-specific. That is one reason I am selling my P3 and going to a custom ti frame with a 27.2 round post (and it’s much easier to clamp a tail light to!!). I’m having trouble even thinking of all of the companies that do the telescoping aero post:

Cervelo
Litespeed
Specialized
QR (I suppose this would interchange with Litespeed… same company)
Isaac?
Kuota?

Anyways, I think aero posts are more of a problem than a solution. I’m not going to be any less ‘aero’ on my new bike. Just safer because I can put on my really bright 10-LED Cateye light. And dryer- I can now use my clip-on fender for rainy days.
