Aero position: on sitbones or 100% taint?

I’ve been struggling with this myself for years. I have finally decided to set my bike up so that I can ride aero and not on my taint. The way I am doing this is that I purchased a Thomson setback seatpost. I installed it on my bike backwards so that it steepens the angle of the seatpost. This way I am able to put the seat in a steep position but I can sit on the wide area of the seat (on my sit bones) while in the aero position so i’m actually not riding super steep becuz i’m not on my taint or the nose of the saddle. So far on the trainer it’s working.
It makes the bike look like your riding super steep but if your on the wide portion of the saddle while aero your not really that steep.
Just an FYI… I have had some success with the Adamo but not 100 %. I now have a Koobi saddle with my new setup and as I said it’s working well so far. I have used Koobi on my Mountain bikes for years. I have a couple saddle i’m going to try in my new position to see which one works best.

I had the same problem., so I tried to find a way to distribute the pressure on my bottom across more than just my taint. If you are in the aerobars, you will be on your taint…plain and simple. I did what others here have said…move the saddle forward until it is under your butt. Now i’m sitting on my taint and sit bones. This just distrubutes the pressure better. Now my rear weight is not all supported by my taint, but also with my sit bones. Oh yeah, I switched to an Arione to accomplish this, too. I’m on a Cervelo, saddle in forward position, pushed almost all the way forward. Tilting the saddle down can help some too, but I find myself having to push myself back a lot when I tried this. My sadddle is about level.

Hope this helps,
Chris

If you like the SLR on your road bike, have you tried the SLR T1? It has pretty long rails, so you might be able to move it forward enough to still sit pretty far back and it has gel padding in the nose if you do move forward. I think this is the saddle that Cervelo uses on most of their bikes, but for some reason my stock cervelo saddle was hard as a rock compared to my T1.

Adamo solved my problem, but I had to make it more narrow in the front with a ziptie b/w the rails.

I have the Profile TriStryke as well. While the vast majority of people choose this saddle and ride up forward it’s big nose, I push the seat forward and park my junk right in the relief spot, so a bit of the nose is still sticking out front and my sit bones rest lightly on the rear of the saddle (with most of the weight on the aerobars).

I sit on my sit bones on a Arione tri saddle

No problems

Just finished a ride with my road saddle (slr xp) moved to my tri bike. Holy crap, it was like a cinderella fit. My position felt perfect, right on my sit bones and minimized taint pressure even with my aerobars rigged to go lower than they are supposed to on my cervelo. I never used it because it has such minimal padding that I thought it wouldn’t work when I really low.

Now to buy a second.

PS, probably the most frustrating thing in the world of cycling to me is fiddling with a seatpost. It’s such a pain in the A to remove and mount a saddle on a post.

you know, I did the exact same thing you did and had a great experience. I was originally on a Fizik Arione Tri and decided to give the slr xp a try. I was a bit skeptical, like you, because of the minimal padding. That was the most comfortable 60 miles I’ve ever put on my bike.

As to the OP, with my experience stated here, I was at about 75/25, taint/sitbones, if that makes sense.

I am the OP, but something about that saddle makes it feel like it was molded to my personal butt. I know that it doesn’t work for everybody, but I’ve always felt the less padding, the more comfortable a saddle is, as long at it has the right shape. This one is spot on in any position.

so i just got the tri bike set up, and i am amazingly comfortable on it. 100% taint for hard stuff, fizik arione tri saddle.

I’d say this is where I’m at, also. But to ask others what they think your most comfortable riding position is can be difficult to answer. I monkeyed around until I found a spot I could sit in without having much discomfort, so that I could stay aero. If that means riding a beach cruiser seat, so be it.

Check my thread about the Adamo Typhoon!

before i bought a road bike, i didnt even know what sitbones are.
I’m still not convinced they exist.

I’m with you. Sitbones are something i use at work. Riding is all taint all the time
riddne adamo, fizik arione, profile stryke - all the same

I ended up here out of desperation, but with nothing for your taint to sit on, the hobson seat allows riding on your ischial tuberosities.
