I prefer to sit on my sitbones when I ride, but I’m having trouble finding a saddle that allows this in the aero position. Is it possible to sit on your sitbones and still be really low in the front? Or do I need to keep searching for the right saddle (or develop a steel taint). My road saddle is a Selle SLR and is perfect. I’ve tried various saddles for my tri bike but I haven’t found the right fit. Just got a Fizik arione but I don’t think it is perfect.
I am eager to see the replys on this as I am struggling with the same thing on my tri bike. I am training for my first Ironman, and have major discomfort on any rides over 3 hours on my Blade. I have tried the adamo race and the sit bone position. I found it painful. I tried to give it time, but just not for me. Right now I am trying the profile tri stryke saddle that is 100% taint. I did my first ride with it yesterday of 2 1/2 hours. It was ok, but had some numbness down below, and not sure if it will work until I get out longer. I can ride my road bike with shorty aerobars all day long with only minor discomfort. I hate to give up the speed, but may end up using the roadie for my IM. I just don’t think the taint was meant for a steep bike.
I too tried the arione on my tri bike. Didnt like it much.
It’s like my grandma use to say: If you ain’t on your taint, it just tain’t right!
I had a similar problem for several year…the Adamo cured that issue for me…
Check Here and Here, and do a search on ST for more info on the Sella SMP.
Edit- More info Here as well
I currently have the Adamo but it’s just too damn wide, my legs rub the rails and I end up with huge marks on the inside of my legs. Do you have this issue?
+2 for watching this thread. My taint ain’t liking the TT bike.
Nope. I mean I can feel it on the inside of my thighs if I really pay attention but it’s a complete non-issue. I’ve read that others have your same problem. They used a ziptie to squeeze the front together to make it more narrow.
Taint on the TT bike, sit bones on the road bike.

You want me to put a ziptie where? ![]()
Have you tried the specialized toupe?
Hmm… I think I am fortunate in that my tri position (riding on my taint) is just as comfy womfy as my road position (riding on my sit bones). Perhaps you could try setting up your tri bike with the road saddle that you like, but tilt the saddle downward somewhat (5-10 degrees)? It may put more weight on your upper body, but may allow you to have some weight on your sit bones instead of your taint?
You have to ride on the nose of the saddle - that will alleviate some pressure. Also, I agree with tilting the tip of saddle down a little until you get used to the weight on your taint. Make sure you have a saddle that is well padded on the nose (Tri-stryke, Arione…)
I hate riding long spells on on the taint, mt solution was to keep pushing the saddle forward until the seat was under my sit bones again. my seat is now ridiculously a long way forward, but I sit on the seat instead of of the end.
I’m grateful us tri types don’t have the 5cm rule to adhere to. my saddle tip is about 2cm forward of the BB now
That (along with my neck) is why I gave up on riding steep and went to a more “multi-sport” position. I couldn’t get taint comfort on any saddle, but I never did try the Adamo. Fizik Arione is the perfect saddle for my road or multi-sport position but never worked for me on the tri bike.
I think it may be more fit related than saddle related. If the way you are fit on your bike has you at the front of your saddle, you’ll be on your taint regardless of what seat you have. If the Adamo didn’t work for you, not sure if anything really will. I’m lucky in that my fit on my bike has me sitting at the back of the saddle.
After some searching and testing I’ve been happy on a Blackwell Research Flow saddle. The Adamo was too wide. I absolutely had to have a saddle with a cut-out in it. I rode a Selle SLR Gel for quite a while and liked it. I suggest trying out road saddles too as they work just fine. The guy who mentioned shoving his seat forward so he wasn’t on the nose has a good idea.
for sitting further back on the saddle check out the specalized toupe (possibly one size smaller than recomended for aero riding) and the arione tri.
both allow for riding the tip or further back.
Plain and simple. ADAMO.
Taint on the TT bike, sit bones on the road bike.

+1 here.
Me, too!! Also helps to ride a beam bike!
