Aero Penalty from Hair Transplant?

Joking about the aero part. Has anyone gotten a hair transplant? I’m thinking about getting one (really think i’ll be an ugly bald dude and I enjoy having hair) but haven’t talked to anyone who has. The testimonials I real online are mostly positive but would love to hear from some real people that have gone through it. Thanks and sorry for this not being a tri specific post.

I have and only on my crown
It’s fabulous and it’ last forever 🙌🏼

We had a joke in my old swim team that we were going to recruit from Bosley Hair Transplant patients.

In all the Bosley commercials they would say they could run, play and swim with their new hair, it seemed like they all turned into swimmers as soon as they got their hair transplants.

If you take the hair off your legs and transplant to your scalp I understand you can save a minute in a 40k TT. And bonus, no more razor burn.

Here are the costs:

  1. Vain evil girlfriends and wives will divorce or dump you much slower. That will cost:
    A) 25 hrs/wk shopping for crap, going on stupid vacations, decorating, watching bad TV and hanging out with obnoxious in-laws.

B) When they finally do dump you it will be precisely timed- so as to maximize their gain and your loses.
That should cost about 98% of everything you will ever have.

BOTTOM LINE:
To the extent that money and time limit you- hair transplants should help your performances
about as much as Heroin.

Had a few mates go down this route. It’s not cheap, but looks OK. If you get up close you can tell it’s a hair transplant, but still looks pretty good and a ton better than bald.I might have to look into this myself in a few years!

I’d say go bald. I like the way I look. It’s an easy trim job every week and I also thought I’d be an ugly bald guy. But, my wife loves the look (also have a trimmed beard look I do every 4 to 5 days).

I’d rather have a bald look than pay for fake hair and everyone will KNOW it’s fake.

Just trim it now

You willing to post a pic of your head/ face?

Hello TXAgeGrouper and All,

Very topical …

But Alopecia is where it’s at!

Nobody will mock you for loss of hair unless they want to get slapped around …

Alopecia is the umbrella term for hair loss. Male Pattern Baldness is Androgenetic Alopecia. Alopecia Areata is likely what Jada is suffering from, but she also may have Traction Alopecia as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against anyone who shaves their head, goes bald or is bald. I’m turning 40 this year and I can confidently say that most of my friends have gone with the shaved head/beard look. Call me vain but I like having hair and while I’ve been taking Viviscal for years which has definitely helped, I’m looking for a more permanent solution that actually looks good.

Anyhow, seems like I’m not completely alone in pursuing this and thanks for those that have commented.

Unless you have already lost a significant amount of hair I’d recommend starting with finasteride pills and minoxidil foam to save what you have and the combo MAY help grow some new hair. The side effects of the fin are not awful depending on your lifestyle outside of training. The biggest is sexual activity/ desire. I’m a horndog and the fin lower the sexual desire and sensation the first 3 months. It did rebound but its something to be aware of.

The transplant itself is fairly pain free/ easy…its the recovery that sucks. Plan on taking 2 weeks off work to hang inside until the scabbing/ redness subsides. There will ne no swimming first 2 months at least and no working out/ sweating first 2-3 weeks. Then once the scabbing is over in 2 weeks you’ll look good. Then in a month there will be mass shedding of most of the transplanted hairs and many surrounding hairs. Then you’ll look like shit for 3 months till the grow cycle starts.

Best bang for the buck is Turkey. Tijuana is next. Canada slightly less expensive than US. Depends how much you want/ need and the finances. I’d seriously look into the Turkish places. I went to TJ but I just had my hairline reinforced so I didn’t need much artistry. I think they did a great job…efficient and pain free.

The best time for a triathlete would be Nov, Thanksgiving time, that way you can start training again in the new year once you’re healed up.

Well there could be an aero penalty if the hair rejects the host…

Clearly bald is faster, because there’s less hair resistance.

I had mine September 19‘ in Istanbul,Turkey. I had wanted one ever since a cousin had his done down in Houston circa 2016. I watched this guy in his mid-30‘s go from very very little up top … to the best damn head of cabbage in the whole family (in about 2 years). I think he did 5,000 FUE grafts @ $12,000.

I had 1,500 FUE grafts. Basically filled in the cul-de-sacs & dropped the hairline down about 1cm. I paid €1,600 for the OP, hotel, transportation, & some small things like breakfast buffet-special pillow-shampoo etc. Going back this fall for 500 DHI grafts on the crown.

Not going to lie, the local injections pre-OP were pretty bad! Twenty some in both the donor & recipient areas. AND you look really stupid for about 3 months. Lots of redness. With a FUE or a DHI procedure there’s zero scaring & with a good/experienced technician there’s literally no noticeable signs of a transplant

I appreciate it. I plan on going with an FUE and doing it locally (in the US). I’ll keep you posted.

Done finasteride/minoxidil for 10 years and although it’s slowed the hair loss, it’s a losing battle over time.

Has anyone done a “hair system”? These things look legit and you can apparently swim in them lol. I don’t like the idea of surgery so in the long run it’s hair system or bald for me.

You gotta do what you gotta do, but I’d just say… I was staring down the losing battle in late 20s… and it was getting to be super stressful.

On July 29, 2001 (yes, I remember the day exactly), I walked into a barbershop in Manhattan and told the guy to buzz it all off.

Have never looked back.

A HUGE benefit… is you never worry about your hair again. Trust me, that’s huge. With transplants, rugs, whatever… man, it’s always going to be hovering over you.

Bald/shaved… you just never worry about it again. And I haven’t paid for a haircut in over 20 years.

(the good news for me, my now wife had already come onboard… so that wasn’t issue).
