Compared to bare legs, is there any aero benefit to wearing regular compression calf sleeves (like CEP) on the bike?
Bare legs or bear legs?
aero calf sleeves (for most) > shaved legs > non-aero compression sleeves > hairy legs
It’s highly individual.
Sleeves with a textured/ribbed surface can be fast on some people, but not all.
For me the CEP sleeves are significantly faster (45sec over 40k). Ruth Astle tested areo sleeves and found no gain. YMMV.
Jim at ERO did a test.
Thanks.

Maybe, maybe not.
i’ve probably tested compression and calf sleeves on > 75 people over the last 4 years ranging from people riding 4:20 for an IM to people riding 6:20. It’s a mixed bag with no clear trend line.
For some there was nothing that was faster than bare legs, for others there were several brands of calf sleeves that worked really well. Some brands did both well and poor on other people. I’ve seen the top of the line calf sleeves test worse than the cheap model, yet I’ve also seen them test better.
If you’re not testing you’re guessing at if there is a benefit or not. If you like the compression/sun avoidance/how cool they look on you/how they make you feel wear them. Don’t assume that they will make you faster though
Hope that helps
