Aeria Ultimate stem on Canyon CF

The stem in the shot is the 100mm version.

Hi Jay,
can you share more pictures?

It’s just remove the Canyon stem and switch to this one or you need to do some magic?

I’ve a Speedmax CF 8.0 XS from 2018 and I want to mount this kit.

Thanks!

Any idea how much does the v21 canyon stem weights? Need to change my 80mm to something longer and was thinking about PD Aeria. But it’s mentioned to be heavy so I’m wondering how does it compare to canyon.

CanyonJay: that would be interesting to post a weight of a Canyon 90mm stem. Could you do it for us, pls? That PD Aeria Utimate stem in 100mm version weighs a hefty 455g acc. to the website. Thanks

Hey Jay,

What I didn’t get … is it necessary to remove the spacer or can I just change the stems and it will fit as well? They seem the same height and the aeria ultimate falls out deeper. Besides the shorter bento box still isn’t available.

70mm stem: 214g = 168g (body including 2 screws) + 33g (front with 4 screws) + 13 (head plug with screw)
90mm stem: 238g = 192g (body including 2 screws) + 33g (front with 4 screws) + 13 (head plug with screw)
.

Regarding the low bento/nutrition box for the regular CF
Via local (Netherlands) Canyon support I (think/hope I) ordered the low version of the nutrition box; apparently you need two parts, the rubber outside and a plastic internal box.

One of these parts is labeled: CAYN Storage Shell E431-16
other one I don’t know (I don’t see the item-nr in my order status, just that there is an item)
combined price is around €15

Items are not in the webshop, so I would advise to call your local support team.

I have the ultimate stem on my CF 8.0 Di2 (medium). I also have it paired with the aeria hydration system. Will post pics soon

Has anyone tried to put this stem on their Canyon? I was just curious because I know Canyon uses their own stem, but it looks like it might fit just from photos.

Excellent, thanks !!!

I am having this stem put onto my Ceepo Katana. Was interested in they hydration system. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Off topic, but why isn’t the 8.0 available in the U.S. along with the 8.0 SL? I can’t be alone in loving the Canyon but not needing another set of race wheels. Drop the $1000 off the 8.0 SL price and remove the race wheels like you do on the European versions and you’d probably already have my money.

I’d love to see them! Did you just change the stem or did you have to remove the spacer as well?

Hi,

does anyone know how much steerer tube is protruding /of its original length with Canyon stem and a spacer/ after your install PD AU stem? Or you just put a PD top cap and tighten it down?

CanyonJay - you mentioned some “intervention” with a file/Dremel to file the spacer…What exactly did you mean? Photos pls. !!

Many thanks.

I dont have PD stem, just the regular Canyon but removed the spacer in this is how it looks. Bare in mind, that if you don’t cut the steerer you have to use other spacers so the top cup will actually hold something.

Do you think that it would be possible to adapt the PROFIL DESIGN Aeria hydration at the original Canyon stem of the CF Speedmax (with Dremel !) or impossible because the stem profiles are really different.
Thank

Or another model or brand but lighter than the Aeria from PROFIL DESIGN

Not possible - the mounting system for the hydration requires the stem to be specifically designed for it

I disagree. It’s possible. A German pro had it attached to her TriRig Alpha X. Today in Cozumel I saw another pro with it attached to a different stem as well.

Also, a profile design rep on ST said they are working on a much lighter stem that may arrive this summer

You realize the guy who said it isn’t possible is the profile design engineer on slowtwitch right?

In fairness, anything is possible if you have a drill or skill with carbon.
So my statement should have been ‘not possible with any standard parts’

Oops I did not! I’m an idiot, sorry.

But my statement stands. He said they have a lighter stem coming so I would either wait or get the heavy one for now and then swap.

I haven’t seen how it was done on the Alpha X. The bike I saw this weekend looked like it might have used double sided tape or something. It was attached at the top of the stem only because the stem was much thinner. It’s doable with some DIY
