Advice

I have a bad family history with heart problems. So I get my cholesteral checked often. It is always around 200 but now it has jumped to 230

Total Cholesterol-230

lipid panel triglycerides-108

HDL- 58

LDL- 15Chol/HDLC Ratio 4.0

Dr. said to control by diet. I already do. I read everything I can about it and. eat right. I also train often and hard. What should I do go on a lowering med. ? The Dr. said maybe??? Heck I worry that if I took a month off or ate “normal” for a while It would go through the roof!

Try limiting your starch. Have most of your carbs as beans, fruits and veggies. Add Psyllium husk and flaxseed meal to your cereal. Eat more nuts and oils and fatty fish. Limit your other animal fats. Try some fish oil (molecularly distilled) and flaxseed oil capsules. If this doesn’t help you may need to talk to your doc about medication.

You might want to check out the book, “Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy, the Harvard Medical School Guide to Good Health” by Walter Willet. It’s an excellent source for good nutrition for general health and he addresses high cholesteral. Good luck. I have elevated blood pressure and also get very frustrated due to the attention I pay to my health.

You might want to try red rice yeast. It can be found at a health food store. It has similar ingredients to the statins. I would check with the doc first.
