Advice on broken metatarsal

I finished Austin 70.3 last Saturday with a stress fracture in my 3rd metatarsal. I now have a full cast (non-weight bearing) on my foot/lower leg and will likely have it there for about 4 weeks. I may get a walking cast after that. In total, I am looking at 6-8 weeks recovery.

I am looking for some advice as to what I can do with a full cast. I can probably do some upper body strength training and perhaps also use a rowing machine with one foot strapped in. I have also continued stretching as much as possible. Swimming and deep water running seem like good alternatives as well, but the cast is not waterproof and the message from my doctor is that it *must *stay dry. I found this, the Dry Pro Waterproof Cast Cover. Does anyone have experience with this product or any other advice as to what I can do in the next few weeks? This is my off season so I was not going to approach the next several weeks with a “training” mindset anyway, but I would still like to maintain some level of activity.

Thank you ahead of time for any useful advice.

with these shoes, I was able to jog a 1:43 half marathon and do leadman las vegas with the same injury. It keeps the bone nuetral. They are so great i use them for training since they weigh 1lb each

Google swim bench or Vasa ergometer.

Take time off, rest and don’t gain weight. I had a metatarsal stress fracture in October, started running in February, had a half marathon PR in May, check this out
