I’ve researched past posts on Slowtwitch regarding the Adamo saddle and wondered if anyone had experience with my problem. I’ve used countless saddles over the last 15 years, and had the best luck with the Tyco split rail saddle. Never any perineal numbness-ever. Gradually I’ve been experiencing pressure on the sciatic nerve in the sitbone area, resulting in occassional leg numbness when really pushing hard. I’ve tried moving the saddle forward and back, angling it up and down and to the side, etc. etc. It’s gotten worse and worse to the point that rides have become an exercise in trying to avoid/postpone this problem rather than concentrating on performance. Most posters remark on the fact that the saddle helps relieve perineal numbness as opposed to my problem. This site is always a wealth of information when I need it, so thanks in advance.
Best place to buy, in the event I make the switch? The alternative my be a (gulp) recumbent.
I made the switch for booty comfort issues but still had a sciatic nerve/piriformis issue crop up during IMWI this year while on the Adamo. I’m still battling it a bit but after a 2 hr ride on the trainer yesterday my behind/leg never hurt once…something no other saddle has managed, not even my beloved old style Terry/Cobb cutback. I do have to make a point not to squinch my right sit bone down when I’m trying to go hard. I think that is a natural tendency of mine to use my stronger leg a bit more and I end up doing a bit of grinding of my right side sitbones into the saddle. You can see it on my old saddles where I’ve rubbed off slightly more of the leather on one side than the other.
I took a tie-wrap and squeezed the rails together in the front a bit on the Adamo too. Despite birthing a couple babies, the saddle is still too wide for me right outta the box.
Ah, after rereading my post I see that’s a valid question. Sorry. I’m on the Tyco and considering a switch.
i finally figured it out based on the last line…a slow on the uptake today.
I got mine from my LBS. They aint’ cheap but if it keeps me on my bike it’s a good investment. I got to test ride one before I purchased - that helped because they feel WEIRD for the first few miles and I popped off the front of it while doing a short race (scooching up to the front). Took a little getting used to but now I don’t even notice it.
Interesting point about using your stronger leg more and grinding your sit bone into the saddle. I’ve got a leg length discrepancy that I’ve pretty well compensated for, but know that my right leg is the stronger and I’m probably doing the same.
It would be great to test ride one but my LBS isn’t going to have one.
I think I screwed up posting on a weekend. I think everyone monitors this forum while “working” so I’ll have to try to remember to bump it up tomorrow.
Thanks for your input.
