A shock to the system in Qatar

.

this conservative Muslim city, which by hosting the Asian Games, a regional sports extravaganza, is trying to bolster its bid to bring the 2016 Summer Olympics to the Middle East.

Are they planning on getting the Summer Olympics moved to February, or plan on holding all the events indoors? It’s a tad warm (& humid) in Doha during the summer…

Thanks

I hope they get it. That would be outstanding.

Do you think the men secretly enjoy watching the women in the bikinis? Or are they truley so devout that they are ashamed of this? I could barely turn the tv off during the last olympics, I kept watching for Misty May highlights.

there are 12,000 athletes from the 45 countries that are members of the Olympic Committee of Asia, competeing in 39 sports and all CNN can do is comment on the size or otherwise of the femal volleyball competitors outfits.
no wonder so many american ( Lavender Room dwellers excluded ) have such a limited veiw of the world

during the opening ceremony of these games, which was truely stunning , we was accompanied by a female Qatari coworker, ( in a black Abaya & scarf ) during the final lap of the torch arrival I commented that in Sydney the last 4 torch carriers were female and that in Qatar the last 4 torch carriers were male. Her response, " 10 years ago we were not even allowed into a stadium, so waiting another 10 years to carry a torch in not a great hardship"

btw, medal tally after 2 days of competition, for Gold medal only
China 22, Japan 4 , Korea 2, Kuwait 2, Kazakstan 1

looks like China will absolutely dominate these games an they are using this as a major test for Bejing 2008.

Really interesting insight, but do you have any pictures of the women’s volleyball competition?

I tried but couldn’t get around the Qatari Mens Camera Team

LOL.

I know they were all there just doing research, but maybe you can get some prepublications of their analysis.

Isn’t this the games in which they are including Chess as a sport? It’s no big wonder that Americans are not real interested in these proceedings.

Them Arab-Muslim robes are so volumnous, them Muslim men spectators probably having a good wank without anyone knowing. Attended because it was a matter of National honor even tough their country wasn’t playing and they were sacrificing themselves in their disgust to do so … good one!

sarcasm again?

“sarcasm again?”

If you’re going to have such a boner for accusing me of stuff like using sarcasm, maybe you should figure out what sarcasm is. Nothing I said in my previous post was sarcasm.

Oh I know what sarcasm is … vey well …fug you very mucho. … so …hmmm …so no sarcasm ay? … good on ya! … no wuckin forries …I really couldn’t figure about the “no wonder so many Americans” and the chess thing … whether that was straight-up or had a sarcastic twist … that’s why I asked. At least it wasn’t directed at any individual.

don’t the winter olympics include a sport with a big rock being pushed along the ice & a couple of athletes with brooms sweeping the ice in front of it?

oh, and the Commonwealth Games includes lawn bowls.

so why not look at the other sports that are here that you may heard of, like athletics, gymnastics, swimming, bicycle racing, road & track ( temporary indoor velodrome ), hey, they even have this really great sport called Triathlon.
there are also some " why are they in the games " sports like 10pin bowling and the one you mentioned, chess etc.
