Hey…
Can one run a Shimano 10-speed cassette with a Campy Chorus rear der? Is it really that big of a difference?

You can, but it won’t shift just right. It will jump a little under stress at times as well when climbing - the spacing isn’t exactly the same from Campy to Shimano (it is identical from Shimano to SRAM). If you are looking at some Shimano wheels to use with your campy drivetrain, you can get a “conversion” cassette from www.wheelsmanufacturing.com. It is basically a campy spaced cassette with a shimano spline system to go on a shimano hub
Thanks Rod…any idea if it will work on a Power Tap? There are also American Classic conversion cassettes out there, but they won’t work with the Power Tap.

Not sure exactly, but I don’t see why not. I used to be a campy guy, but had some Shimano race wheels with my tri bike that I ran a wheels manufacturing cassette on for road racing on the old Litespeed. Worked perfect
Use a Jtek Shiftmate, works much better than a conversion cassette. The shiftng with the Jtek is great. I’m running all Campy record with a Shimano disc using a D/A cassette. With the Jtek it shifts flawlessly.

Hmmm…I duly went to their website, but there didn’t seem to be a shiftmate that would match up campy 10 speed shifters with a campy der and a shimano 10 speed cassette. Is that what you’re running?
Thanks…Spot
You’re reading their website wrong then. They have a model that hooks up Campy 10 drive train to Shimano 10 speed cassette. The model works for several different combinations of Campy to Shimano, Shimano to Campy or either to SRAM. It’s the Model #1. Look at the chart it’s all right there.
The model #1 is for mating wheelsets to drivetrains along with Campagnolo/SRAM combinations $35 USD Shifter Derailleur Cassette type & speed

10 speed Notes: When mixing wheelsets the vintage of the Campagnolo Shifters and derailleurs will not matter as long as they are a match from the same era.

D’oh!!! You are right, of course. Dammit…it was right there in front of my face.
Thanks!

Just ordered a bike and took advice from people who I assume know what they’re talking about (I don’t).
This is the combo I ordered:
Dura-Ace 12/25 10-sp CS-7800 Cassette
Dura-Ace 10-sp CN-7800 Chain
Dura-Ace 10-sp RD-7800 Rear Derailleur Short Cage
Dura-Ace 10-sp FD-7800 Front Derailleur
Campy Record UT Carbon Crankset 53/39
Campy Record UT Bottom Bracket Cup Set
I even called the company to double check - they said that it wasn’t common, but they could see why I’d been given the advice - I have been told that the best crankset in the game is the Campy Record Carbon one…
Any views from those who know?
