A positive Ergomo review for a change!

First of all I should start saying that I’m not sponsored by Ergomo.

I have now had my Ergomo Pro for a year (bought it from jkatsoudas on this forum), after reading all bad reviews about this tool I think I should atleast give my input/experience of using this powermeter.

First off, I wrecked the tool that inserts the crank-arms (the let me bought a new one for 20$), just to crack the cup that holds the sensor(bought a new one for 20$), after that I realized:“Maybe I shouldn’t be the one that installs this thing!!”.

Said and done my LBS took care of it. First two weeks with the ergomo, it was constant raining, I did a little over 2000km, I can say for sure, it’s waterproof!

Anyway back home from the training camp I did some lab tests at one of the best (if not the best) lab facilities in Sweden (Åstrandslabratoriet). One thing I found out that my LT was at 310w. Seven days later I did a one hour all out, guess my number, 311w. I now that this isn’t a valid proof that the numbers are correct, but pretty darn close, also my MEAN curve did clearly point on a value around 310 for the time being.

However one thing that really did annoy me that such a big computer with a large display only showed me four values at a time. In a TT/Triathlon I don’t want to change screen. BOY was I happy when the new software came out that allowed me to pick my own EIGHT values to display! Awesome, a “fully” customizable computer!

This year I did the same procedure with a training camp and testing. My LT was now 328w to the tests, my full out one hour test showed me 328!!! Important to mention is that I didn’t looked at the avg. watt at neither of these tests! MEAN curve gave me something around 330w. Still, it’s not a valid proof that this thing measure watt correct, but I find it to be spot on!

Something that does annoy me though is the battery LOW indicator, it can sometimes be visible for more than 5 hours, what’s the deal with that? Hopefully there will be a software upgrade so the user can chose to remove it. Also the speed sensor needs a really well placed and strong magnet to function and preferably stiff wheels too.

All in all I’m very satisfied with my powermeter, I really think I made the best choice for my budget. Since I wanted to be able to use a disc wheel(back then there was no powertap zipp disc). Although I do misses my DA 7800 crank arms

My two cents of the story.
