A Big Ass Swing Set For The Ages

I got to say I’m starting to like Obama a little more each day. Here is a guy in the midst of a no-win economic enviroment the likes this country hasn’t seem for a long time, with unemployment topping 8%, markets crashing, businesses folding, tent cities in every major population center, and on and on. And while every other consumer in this country has retrenched, as evidenced by the increasing savings rate and pathetic retail sales figures, Obama chooses to be his own man, to spend his hard earned dollars the way he sees fit, regardless of the message it sends to people like that poor woman who asked him to buy her a new ktichen and a car. That takes balls and I can respect that.

A $10,000–or whatever the price may be, let’s call it $5,000–swingset is something I would love to buy my kid someday and if I had the coin I’d buy one tomorrow–actually I would take a few weeks off and build a mega swing complex, but that is beside the point. The bottom line is that only in America, even in the darkest of times, can our President engage in such conspicuous consumption without batting an eyelash and without flinching a muscle.

Again, I’m not hating on you Barack, on the contrary, I think your abiltiy to spend needlessly at this stage of the game is a delightful and soothing reminder of the way life used to be.

My question would be did he actually pay for it or did it come out of the white house budget

.

I heard this AM he paid for it hisself.

Union made, kick back
.

Then his wages need to be cut back. If we can’t have corporate jets or CEO compensation I don’t see how this is appropriate either

Ok, I take back what I said, Barack really needed to step it up a little because in comparison to the other models this company offers it looks like he went for simple, more “affordable” model. To really thank his kids he should have gotten this:

My Dad, slacker high school teacher that he was, built us some really cool swing sets during his summers off- 2 or 3 levels of deck, sandbox, multiple swings, monkeybars, etc. cool slide.

The house we moved to when I was 10, the playscape also had a 5’x8’ playhouse and a drinking fountain so we didn’t have to go back up the hill for a glass of water.

A treehouse would have been sweet too, I built plenty of those as a kid, and someday I hope to build another. Of course you need property with trees to do that!

On a side note, Rainbow Play Systems has remarkable swingsets. A friend of mine installed playgrounds for them about 5 years ago (when the economy didn’t suck as much)… He would install for a lot of pro athletes for their kids, and people who generally just had too much money to spend. It was really, really nice equipment.

This is a joke, right?

I ripped out the swingset that was in my backyard when I bought the house. Now my wife is pregnant, and I’ll have to buy a new one. Doh!
