910xt Pace Issue With Footpod

At first I thought my battery was bad, so I replaced it and recalibrated the footpod on a treadmill. My garmin still showed a 15min+ pace. I know i’m slow, buy I’m not that slow. So I figured the footpod was broken. So I bought a new footpod and calibrated it on the treadmill. Getting the same results. Possible solutions?

The problem is that you really can’t calibrate the footpod on the treadmill. They are notoriously neglected and sometimes way off on their belt speed. Rather, if you check in the footpod manual, it is to be calibrated outside on track against a known and accurate distance, say 800m on track or against the GPS on the straight line. If you do that, per manual, you will achieve a decent accuracy when you run in the range of paces you used to calibrate. You will also find the pod to be off when running slower or faster, sometimes as much as 20sec/mi.

I personally find threshold running in my program the most important. I calibrate on track by running 800m at threshold pace, so when I step on treadmill my threshold workouts line up perfectly with my actual pace.
Just my 2cents.

How are you calibrating it?

Ditto above, but with a slight addition.
Usually treadmills are consistently wrong. So…if you calibrate on a treadmill, it should at least agree with the treadmill about every time. And since you calibrate the watch/footpod according to that inaccuracy, then the numbers on Garmin connect should then agree with the treadmill.
Just checking…is your GPS on? Indoors, the GPS signal will bounce around, making it look like you are slowly walking within a ~50m zone…that could give it a 15minute pace. (The pro way to turn off GPS: When you first turn on the watch, and it says aquiring satellites with the bars…hit enter, then “no”)

Just brave the elements on a warmer day and hit the track. Warm up, then do 2 laps as smooth as you can at a good ‘normal’ pace. Then, make sure the watch is set to use the footpod (not GPS) for instant speed displayed.

since we’re on the topic … question about foot pod calibration.

i calibrated my footpod on the track and it’s pretty accurate on the treadmill. problems arise when i start adding a decent level of incline to the treadmill. suddenly the footpod tracks significantly slower than the treadmill (say :30 slower). in this case, i’m sure the treadmill is much more accurate the footpod. it’s back to 1:1 as soon as i go flat or nearly flat. any ideas?
