I’m curious if they ironed out the 910 issues from last year?
Was looking at getting one of these for my wheels so I can have swim, bike and run data from every race. How is it on the bike?

Mine works great, doesn’t switch off any more, not that it did a lot anyway, a few times, but close enough to know it was an issue and that it is now fixed.
Run pace is solid now.
I don’t use courses but I know that was the other issue.
I never have any issues with swim.
Great watch.
Regarding issues… I personally never had any serious complaints, but I watch the Garmin forums quite a bit and seem to see far fewer issues being reported lately. Either things are better or people have given up ![]()
As far as on the bike, I’d say it is ok. I like the number of data fields and screen size of a Garmin Edge 500 or 800 better than the 310xt or 910xt size, but it is definitely able to be used. I’d recommend a quick release mount if used extensively for biking, even though that makes it slightly more awkward on the wrist.
Also, a few have noted an intermittent ANT signal issue when worn on the wrist. It can drop messages from a power meter or speed/cadence sensor causing some issues with data recorded. Unfortunately it is not super easy to reproduce or determine exact cause (except it seems to go away when on a QR mount).
Maybe I can get a 500 for training and a 910xt for racing! That might work the best right? My only issue at REI today was actually screen size, which is why I asked. I am an athlete who often gets “power goals” for training.(ex: hold 315 watts for 10 mins then have rest) How is the 910s interval mode? Would the screen be readable for these type of sessions?
I’m pumped for the swim data. Although I know I’m going to be hating myself even more now haha. I recently moved to Lifetime fitness which is a 25 meter pool. It easily added 9 seconds to my 100m times and it’s been a hard adjustment getting rid of the “swim ego”. I can only imagine tracking my longer rest sets.
Do you use training peaks at all? How does the swim data work in that case?
I use mine for power intervals, works well. There is also an ‘auto’ feature which flips between screens. You can also turn screens off.
You could turn off bike screens 3 and 4, just leaving 1 and 2. Less confusing if you need to don’t use all the screens.
This leads to my next trick. Using the screens keep the important fields the same, and in the same place. Then just change the less important ones. Then put the screen on auto rotate. Then it looks like just one or two of the fields switch between themselves. Make sense?
If I wanted power available all the time - Actual and 3 second average for example - as well as my HR. I could set the first screen up as:
Power Avg Power
HR Total Distance
I could set the next screen up as:
Power Avg Power
HR Total Time
When I put the screen on auto rotate it keeps Power, Avg Power and HR there all the time and just rotates the Distance and Time.
Probably obvious but I like it!! ![]()
Swim on Training Peaks just gives you base data, none of the stroke info. That looks a lot better in Garmins web thang.
Very cool! Thanks for the detailed feedback. I’ve watched some youtube videos and it looks sleek and I’m fairly certain I want to buy one of these. It would be really cool during a race to have this possibility.
I got mine 3 weeks ago, got it updated to 2.6 at the store, and I have had 0 issues with anything so far! I’ve mostly been using it in the pool, but I’ve gone on 3-4 runs, one outdoor bike ride and a very indoor rides on my trainer and it seems to be doing the right thing.
Also, Ive been reading this forum for a while but this is my first official post. Hi all ![]()
I have had no issues with mine. Running 2.5 and it works great!
I had preoerdered mine and received the first shipment in Feb. I was unlucky and had the one issue some seem to have twice. Elevation. Wil all of a sudden read 40,000 feet and continually drop or read low and rise. They replaced the first one and then the second one had the same issues after about 3 months, just like the first. Said it was software and a replacement might not fix and asked me to wait. After a month I just said give me a new one.
Long story short, love the 910. Seems only some have this issue but the replaced it immediatly twice with a turn around time of a week. So would buy again
I used to have issues with the watch shutting off when used on the bike or when using the “Course” function during runs. Since having upgraded to firmware version 2.60, those issues are gone.
There are a few annoying points left:
When using the “Course” feature, the watch “loses” the course every time an automatic lap split is taken (e.g., after every mile), for a few seconds. There was a bug introduced in firmware version 2.50 where the average pace of any run (and/or bike) would show up in your history as something super fast (15 seconds/km or so). This has been corrected in 2.60.There is an issue with the stroke count for open water swims. Assume I do 40 strokes per 100 metres (only one arm is counted). It then shows the correct number of strokes for the first 100. For the second 100, it somehow re-counts the first 100 and gives me 80 strokes, then 120 for the third 100 and so on; the total is then some astronomically high humber. This carries over to Garmin Connect (the wrong average pace mentioned above didn’t).Minor: the average pace for indoor swims (when displayed on the watch in activity history) is calculated using the total time, not the total time minus the rest time. Doesn’t carry over to Garmin Connect. All in all, now that the watch doesn’t switch off anymore, I’m very happy with it. The last major bug I know of are issues with the barometric altimeter where people report thousands of feet climbing shown on the watch for rather flat courses. It’s not always spot on, but good enough for me, and if it’s too far off, I just switch on “Elevation Correction” on Garmin Connect.
I’ve had the 910xt since the first day it came out… It was a lil glitchy with the shutdowns but thats been fixed. The barometer sucks though and my elevation is wrong 50% of the time. For example, my runs start and end at the same place but the watch will have me at a constant incline or constant decline for the whole run… very strange.
During Tris, I use a 500 edge for the bike leg. The quick release mount has issues with falling off during open water swimming so I dont want to chance it. I’ve had it fall off during a pool swim when I bumped my wrist on the dividers.
There is one annoyance the 910 has that the 310 did not. When you are running in the dark and you hit the “light” button on the top left side of the watch, the light does come on but the light level indicator appears in front of the display. So you cant see anything. You then have to hit another button to make the indicator go away so you can see the display.
On the 310, hitting the light button once just makes the display illuminate. You have to hit it a second time to make the light level indicator appear. Thats the way it should be
That’s exactly what I use, edge 500 for training and 910xt for racing…hoping to upgrade to a 800…only because i’m a gear junky.
.
When in run mode try just double tapping the screen with your thumb and the backlight will come on. I had the problem you mentioned until I realized you didn’t have to use any buttons to turn on the backlight on the 910.
I appreciate tbe attempt to help but personally I find that doubletap functionality to be difficult to use. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. I still wish they would fix what happens when you hit the button

If the double tap doesn’t work well for you, just push the “Enter” button (lower right), that will illuminate the screen without adding clutter.
Edit: …if you have turned on the backlight once using the upper left button.
I set my backlight to always be on medium. The battery is not an issue unless your doing an IM.
Ah perfect. Tbanks
I just got my 910xt. Did they get rid of he multiple bike settings from the 310xt? I have two power taps (one for TT and one for road bike). Is it possible to pair both of these to the 910xt at the same time?
