8 miles running on grass = how many road miles

due to a calf injury I ran 8 miles on grass today and it was a really hard workout. I was wondering since the grass workouts are harder would 8 miles equate to 10 miles on the road?

8 miles
I will refrain from any sarcasm
.

Well, 8 miles is 8 miles…not sure about equating that to more miles just based on the difficulty of the terrain.

8 miles is 8 miles, just note in your training log it was 8 miles on grass and it was harder
.

8
.

Er…8?

8
.

I have to reply as post #8 (well hopefully by the time I hit “Post Reply”)…
8 miles is 8 miles unless you really think that 8 miles uphill is not the same as 8 miles downhill???

Fred.

So you ran 8 miles stoned? I imagine there was some weaving so maybe 8.5 miles.

You guys Suck! LOL.

I was supposed to do 16 today, but with the injury I did the best I could. I guess I just wanted to stretch it out.

Healing under pressure is a hastle, I have a marathon in Japan in 5 weeks.

ROFLMAO!!! Classic!

To the OP. I’m going to chime in as zero miles. However, you’ve not lost much in comparison in the distance of 8 miles.

But what do I know.

Hope you heal from your injury soon.

Silly me, I thought you meant you were stoned! If so the title should be 8 miles **floating **on grass = how many miles.

Could grass be considered a PED?

seriously though, I agree with most people that 8 miles is 8 miles. However, I’m in a similar boat, ran 3 hours yesterday on very rough up and down trail conditions. Probably only ran around 15 miles but I’m calling it 17 because I have no doubt had I run for 3 hours on the road at the same effort I would have covered at least 17 miles if not more… I suppose that might be “cheating”, but it’s my training log and training plan and I suppose I can do it however I want! If I typically raced on rough up and down trails with lots of stones, I would accurately record the mileage, but since I’m training for road races on pavement, I’m recording the mileage based on the effort and time.

“I was supposed to do 16 today, but with the injury I did the best I could. I guess I just wanted to stretch it out.”

I’ll be generous and grant you 16 miles for the 8 you ran. No charge and you didn’t get behind on your training.

Not sure why everyone is giving you a hard time. 8 miles running on grass = 0 miles running on the road. You didn’t run at all on the road.

is the marathon on grass? b/c if so, then…8 miles.

heck man, I reckon if you can win a race stoned, you deserve an extra medal! unless there’s a big mac at the finish line, then the PED thing might come into it.

What about 7k on snow covered ice… hell I even took a spill, that’s at least worth 10k road…

8 is 8. It may have felt harder, but technically is was easier. Running on grass/trails is much easier on the legs from a damage/impact standpoint. You recover faster on softer surfaces, thus “easier”.

think in terms of time and effort/pace vs. distance and you’re headed in the right direction
