700c front disk?

Are there any FRONT disk wheels out there anymore?

Special order- lots of companies do a special order front.

One thing to keep in mind, unless you ride the 'drome a lot, you may not have much use for one, as they are illegal for USAT racing, mass start racing, or some race directors for non-USAT sacntioned races and even some USCF race directors won’t allow them for safety reasons.

We have some in stock right now if you’re interested…

Clearly 99% of them go to the track, but we do actually see some people try to use them on the road as well in certain situations. In a minor wind, it actually isn’t quite as bad as you might expect, but this really depends on the geometry of your bike and your front end.

HED makes them for the road, I tested one for a few rides but even in calm conditions the wheel scared me - it steered itself.

Didn’t Laurent Fignon have a front disc in the famous TT he lost to Lemond in '89?

I think front discs steer themselves because of their rotational inertia. kind of like a gyroscope free to rotate around one axis but confined on two planes… It’s going to want to turn. It is just a thought. I have never used a front disc…can anyone attest to this?

I’m not one to complain about cross wind instability but a front disk does give you a lot of steering input in all but the absolute calmest conditions. I tried using a front disk at the district TT back in the mid-80’s, which must have been prior to any ruling that they were not allowed for use on front wheels for the road. I warmed up with it and it didn’t feel good. It took a lot of effort to hold a good straight racing line even on a flat, straight road. I switched to some aero, bladed spoked front wheel and a HED disk rear. It rode very well.

Front disks are a handful.
