I am looking to do my first half ironman this year in Luxembourg and would love to have a specific training program to follow now to build my base fitness. I have recently purchased don finks guide book but it only provides a 16 week program. I am at odds as to what I can do between now and starting that specific plan.
I would do some pre-season work:
-get used to the routine of sbr on specific days
-base volume: if you haven’t been training for weeks
-strength work: swim w/paddles, bike hills, run hills
-diet focus
-Single sport/Weakness focus

Start with the beginning phase of the 16 week program and see where your fitness level is at. This will help you gauge how much training you actually need for that distance.
