650 clincher tire recs

I am disgusted with the Michelin’s I’ve ridden on this year. Been through a pair of Axial Pros and a pair of Pro Races. Both have proven extremely troublesome with punctures compared to their tires in past years.

Used to like Conti GPs a bit but they wore so quickly I went through them like pounds of Starbuck’s coffee.

What the hell should I be ordering these days? And from who? 200-300 miles/week right now. Mostly well maintained roads.

Thx.

This is in NO way scientific, simply my personal experience over the last 5 years on 650’s.

Michelin, Continental, Bontrager, Vittoria: All either wore out WAY too quickly or were difficult to mount. For me the Michelins rode really well but wore out after about 5 rides (not really but I got a lot of Texan in me and we don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story).

Hutchinson, Vredestein: Not only did I get excellent wear from these two brands but I found them (relative to the aforementioned brands) very easy to mount.

FTR, I run 23mm not 20’s.

Although I’ve had issues with the Conti 3000’s in the past, I went to the Gatorskin this year for training.

I’m very happy with the tires, they don’t feel slow like I thought they would, just a little harsher than the Pro-Race.

I’ve got 1500 miles on the rear now and it’s just starting to show some wear, probably good for another 2000 miles. The front hardly shows any signs of wear at 1200 miles. Of course I’m only 145lbs too.

I would definitely give that tire a try. It’s fairly well priced too, even from a bike shop.
