Holy shit. That’s almost disturbing. They could have at least waited for the second to arrive before stop filming.

Holy stroke rate!!!

How long before Frank chimes in?

Yes, I know she is 6 (claimed), but in the 8 and under class, many go 15 secs.

Her parents will burn her out by the time she’s 9!

When you can get a kid to master the technique at that young an age, they will always be fast. It does not necessarily translate into great swimming later. My little sister was 2nd in state at 6 years of age in backstroke because she had incredible technique for a 6 year old. That was the highlight of her swimming career. She swam year round for a while after that, but once everybody learned how to swim the stroke correctly, she was no longer at the top.

When I coached summer league I always had the fastest 6 and unders because I made them kick board like crazy and worked on technique. The first 3 weeks of practice was almost all kickboarding. My kids would win their early races off their kick. When their arms caught up, they were all crazy fast.

That’s a good time but by no means a great time. At our summer league championship meet, she wouldn’t make the finals (top 12) in the 8 & U age group. But, since she’d have 2 more summers in that age group, one could expect to see her there eventually. She has to drop another 4 or 5 seconds over the next 2 years to be a considered a great, rather than just good, 8 & U.

It makes my shoulders ache just watching it.

My sister swam a 16 second 25 meter free when she was an 8 and under in the mid 70s, and the really fast 8 & under girls were swimming 14 and 15 seconds for 25 meters. That’s the fast ones, at one summer league, more than 30 years ago.
