Six bicyclists critically injured, Sho-Lo Arizona.
Hopefully the driver won’t make it out of the hospital after being shot by the police

Wow!
wait?
One of the cyclists was carrying?
It’s Arizona, so carrying while cycling is totally plausible. However, the driver wasn’t near the group of cyclists when he was shot. He got into a shootout with the LEOs.
It’s now 7 that are critically injured.
The cops chased the guy and shot him after he wouldn’t stop. He swerved into the Men’s 55+ group at the AZ State Championship Road Race, drove over bikes and bodies, then tried to drive away.
Sounds like dude was armed and opened fire on police officers, and possibly was drunk.
Didn’t get that at all.
The other thing I don’t get is why they shot him. He was fleeing his vehicle, which presumably was registered. If they’d killed him what justice would’ve That bring for the critically injured?
He needs to be put in front of a jury and tried. I don’t understand America.

was the ENTIRE story posted publicly before you passed judgement on the cops?
I don’t even know what to say to your post. The guy attempted to murder innocent people. He was operating a deadly weapon regardless of if he pulled a gun or not.
You can’t be that stupid surely?

Gotta be a troll post.

I don’t see it as a troll post. There is criteria for using deadly force, fleeing in a vehicle is not one of them.
There has to be more to the story than what has been reported already. I suspect the person had shot at police or created a situation that put other lives in danger, thus allowing the officers to use deadly force.
??? I’m failing to understand you. Do you think it’s the trial that provides the justice to the family and society, or the outcome of the trial?
This is insanity.
There are a lot of fault lines in our society(race, gender, politics, etc.), but what the hell is it with people hating cyclists? This whole vehicle as a weapon thing is frightening as hell.
I dunno, someone uses a vehicle to intentionally attempt to kill people, I say you’d have a good argument that as long as they are in the vehicle they are still an imminent threat to peoples lives regardless of whether they are trying to get away from the cops at that moment or not.
Yes, I understand that. It’s very possible the police felt he presented immanent danger to others.
They shot him because he was behind the wheel of a 7,000 lb. weapon which he used to nearly kill 7 people. Perhaps they’ll all make it and it won’t be considered vehicular homicide.
My brother-in-law lives up there and he’s a cyclist. Thank goodness he wasn’t on the charity ride.

Someone still using a deadly weapon (vehicle) in the presence of his initial target (cyclists/bystanders) I would say that’s imminent danger to others.
At the point he turns his steering wheel, he is no longer driving, he is using the vehicle as a deadly weapon with the intent of killing random others and must be stopped.
I’ve now had a bunch of second hand accounts of what has gone on. The post that was shared in my team group was that this piece of fecal matter put his truck in reverse and ran people over after he had already plowed through them. No idea if that was true.
What I do know is I have a teammate that was run over by this excuse of a dingle berry, was hoping none of mine were there, but alas the cycling and tri world remains very small. My teeammate is alive, but the chance he’ll get justice or recompense is small.

I had the same reaction as you, there has to be way more to this story, because at least two of the “facts” so far sound highly unusual.
Swerving into riders intentionally, during a race no less.
The police shooting at a fleeing vehicle. This doesn’t sound normal, there must be some very special circumstances for police to fire at a vehicle moving away from them, unless he was shooting at them or there was something else. Not saying the police are in the wrong, but saying there should be some very unusual circumstances for this (shooting a fleeing suspect).
i posted above that the assailant was firing at police officers while fleeing.
the driver crossed over 4 lanes of traffic to plow through the m55+ field at the race. he got shot and will also get to stand trial.
