I have been to multiple shops to have a look and try out the bike. I am torn between the 58 and 56.
One shop said get the 58, the other said get the 56. The reach on the 56 suits me better but a little worried about how low it is. Currently ride a 58cm slice and 58cm Allez (which I feel it a bit too long and high)
I am
6’ 1.5"
approx 34.5/35" inseam
70kg
Long(ish) arms
Does anyone have any advice? Really like the feel of the dales!
I’m 6’2 currently 75kg 34" inseam and would ride a 58cm supersix. I got fitted several times, same thing. 56 and 58 fit with the supersix, but the 58 felt better to me.
My advice: Don’t get a Cannondale, but if you must, get a 58.
Just not a fan of the supersix after actually riding it. They’re definitely less aggressive than most things out there and the supersix I rode didn’t feel as responsive as other bikes. Great starter bikes and great for everyday stuff, but I wanted something more aggressive and for tris/crits so I went with a Scott Addict.
Also, I don’t think stack/reach comes into play with a road bike, just tri bikes. With a road bike just get something that fits and feels nice.
I really like the super six but I am just not sure if I “fit” the ideal rider to ride this. I want something fast that I can use in chain-gangs, maybe the odd race and just general fast solo training rides.
I currently ride a 58cm Allez, which I think is probably a bit big for me. The 58 dale has a similar reach to the allez but is lower. The 56 dale seems like a nice reach but might be a bit low for me.
I cant ride a canyon, but looking at the geometry, it has a reach the same as a 56 dale but with 2cm more in the head tube.
I am the same height and 209 lbs, I am on a 58. 2011 supersix hi mod 1. And love it. It is very fast and handles like an indy car in crits… it is stiff on climbs even at 209 lbs. Big diff. In ride between the standard super six…and the hi mod ver…
I think I need to try them both side by side… (I have tried them independently and from memory the 58cm felt good but was too high (full stack of spacers) and the 56cm felt low (full stack of spacers)… People have told me it will feel low because I am used to the high end of my current Allez but I will get used to it.
A few people have said I would fit a 56cm and others have said I will fit a 58cm. I am basically trying to find something with a shorter reach than my 58cm allez that’s also a bit lower.
All of this makes me think the canyon would suit my body type more. the 58cm has the same reach as a 56cm dale but has an extra 2cm in the head tube.
I basically don’t want to end up as the same as my allez, where I look and feel quite stretched out when on the hoods/in the drops.
interesting to see so many people in the same boat here…
Im 6´1-6’2 depending on time of day and precision… my bike fitter said a 56 would do but then I went on a used 58 caad9 which is my first and current ride and I fit very well there, with 2cm of spacers and 110mm stem.
Im upgrading to a SS evo and already got the frame, a 56 (got a good deal and also loads of the generic comments “it will be faster” “it will handle better”, etc etc). This bike will be built at the end of this month, but now Im incresingly concerned I wont fit it well. this is not so much as looking for an opinion since I will only know for sure when Im in the bike shop fitting, but more to express that it is quite an usual issue
By looking at the geomotery. A 58 has only a .5cm longer reach than the 56.
Basically, it looks like the 56cm is long and low, and the 58cm is ever so slightly longer and higher. As much as I want a super six, I am starting to wonder if its designed more for people who are more evenly proportioned as opposed to long limbs.
If I cant fit comfortably on the 56cm, I will be getting a 58cm canyon as the reach is the same as the 56cm dale but with stack a bit less than the 58cm dale. At this price, fit is most important to me.
