5K OWS: Sleeved Tri Suit or Jammers?

I am doing a 5K OWS. I am a solid MOP swimmer. What is the conventional wisdom for swim clothing in a long swim like this: sleeved (De Soto) tri suit, or just Speedo jammers and shirtless? Theoretically, the tri suit should be faster with its sleeves and magic “lift foil” pad. On the other hand, I could just swim in a jammer like probably everyone else. I will probably be in the water for around 90 minutes.

Jammers and shirtless. This isn’t a triathlon. You will be the only one wearing a tri suit, if you choose to do so.

Jammers unless you have a swim skin that is legal to wear. 5k is a long swim & the restrictive nature of the trisuit/skin may not be very comfortable.

Check the rules for the race you are doing. None of the open water swim races around here allow you to wear a tri suit.

Don’t be the guy in the trisuit at a half marathon

Jammers or speedo

Haha, this actually made me laugh out loud when I had a mental picture of me in a tri suit in an HM.

The votes for the jammers win. I shall not be That Guy.

Let’s be clear: speedo brief or nothing. The only crowd likely to make fun of triathletes more than roadies are swimmers.

Jammers, doubt a tri suit would even be legal in a swim race.

Read the race guide. If its FINA / USA Swimming sanctioned then the following rules apply: wetsuits are required below 18C, optional 18-19.9C, textile suits above 20C.

No zippers are permitted with textile suits. There are open water full suits without zippers but they cost a minimum of 350

Its not a swimming race if you’re wearing a wetsuit/trisuit. Well done on signing up for a 5k, now swim it like a swimmer.
