5'6" people...What TRI frame and what size do you use?

Hello,

As the subject states… what brand Tri frame and what size are you 5’6" people using…

Just curious … starting to actually look for a Tri bike finally!

Thanks!

Gall

5’6" exactly. I just bought one of the new version Cervelo P3’s in May. It is a 51cm frame and the only change that I made was to use a 70mm stem and now it fits perfect…I’ve only raced it once so far (Eagleman 70.3), but have zero complaints.

5’6 150 lbs,
p3 51cm as well. 165 cranks, I wear 31/30 pants

There is so much more to fit than just height or frame size. If you can’t go get properly sized to get at least your stack and reach needs then walk into every bike shop within 200 miles and try every bike you can lay your hands on.

Bikes I have owned… 50, 51, 52, 54. Bikes that have fit me… 51, 54. Bikes that have not fit me but fit someone 5’6"… 50. Bikes that have not fit me but fit someone 5’2"… 52.

I am 5’4".

5’6", 51cm P2, 165mm cranks, Retul fit helped a lot

Along the lines of what Duckie said. One of my old training buddies is the same height as me, but we can’t ride each other’s bikes hardly at all. I have a long torso and short legs. He is the opposite. Or fits and bike requirements are quite different.

But to answer you, I am 5’6". I rode 51cm p3s and p4s but I have not tried a p5 because it’s been changed rather radically for someone like me – long torso, skort legs and very flexible so able to easily get very low in front. Also have an XS Specialized Shiv. I rode a small Speed Concept for a while, but it was a lot of compromising to get it to fit.

5’6" here ride a 54" Felt (2005) so it had their old geometry, I have a long torso and short legs as well. When I am shopping for a new bike I will need to figure out my stack and Reach

Like others have said, fit is very specific. I’m 5’6" and I’m also on a P3 (51cm) with 170 cranks (smallest SRM has in my model).

5’6 - I’ve fit on a 51cm P3sl with a 90mm stem, an XS (49cm) Look 596, and currently have a Trek Speed Concept in a small. If you start looking at bikes that are sized in XS, S, vs. traditional measurements, I would definitely test ride before pulling the trigger. Sizing runs very differently between bikes and when you’re dropping this much money, you want to get something that will fit you. I would highly recommend getting fitted and then bike shopping.

When you have the size 54 bike, what size is the:

  1. stem
  2. is the seat post standard set back or 0 set back
  3. are u proportional, or have long torso, short torso, short legs or long legs. etc…

I’m a freak… a very flexible freak. The 54 is my TT bike, a stock P5, except for a dropped stem, an ISM saddle and 162.5 cranks. I am long torso, long femur/humerus (just kind of peter out below the knees and elbows T-rex style) and very, very flexible so I absorb a shocking amount of reach. My musculature hides a lot of the discrepancy until things like this come up (used a custom saddle when I rode horses too). Everyone who sees my bike is absolutely positive I am fitted wrong and they could do better. Sometimes I let them try just for giggles but it always comes back to the same thing “Damn… it DOES fit”. My fit guy at home says he’s going to have a sticker made for my top tube that says…“Don’t ask. It FITS!”

When I got fitted on a fit bike, the numbers came back that I needed more mm of reach than I did stack ( frame R:410-S:400). That was when I had to make a decision. Accomodate reach OR stack OR go custom. I decided that since we had always tried to accomodate stack, maybe this time I’d go for having enough reach and having to whittle down the stack. It was the right choice and I haven’t looked back. I am totally comfortable and if I am giving up speed in being too high up front, I am making up for it in power and the ability to stay in aero the whole time.

I am an extreme example, but a good one, for why you have to consider lots of factors in fit.

You need to get fit to bike.

I am slightly less than 5’6" (female) with long torso & shorter legs. No way would I fit on a 51cm frame. Ride a 48"cm P2C and can get nice & low in front with the stock equipment. On a 51cm frame, no way in hell was I getting very low without spending lots of dough on funky stems and bars.

The only way you are going to know if a frame will work for you is to get a fit and know your numbers. Then you know for sure whether a frame will work for your body type. It is money well spent up front. You don’t want to regret a bike purchase bc the only homework you did on size was to poll slowtwitch.

Duckie is on it. Talk to your LBS - they’ll know what fits right. I’m 5’6" and have short arms, so the frame of my Specialized Ruby fit me BRILLIANTLY compared to the Cervellos I tested.

Take the time to sit on the bike. A good shop can talk through your needs and make sure you’re comfy. My shop also has a “30-day guarantee” so you can do some serious test riding/

And to answer the other two questions. I am on a 100 mm stem and I don’t remember the setback.

51 cm Orbea Ordu (with the forward angled seat post).

I am 5’7" and I use a 51. It was a little crunched and after the GURU fit, I had to adjust the handle bars up and I think out. Might be too many details. A good fit will give you the correct answer.

I am 5’7" on a 2011 Felt b16 in 54. I have a 80mm -17 deg stem and adomo saddle. I am very happy with the fit.

Cheers.

Dave

5’6.5".

I have used the following

P3SL 51
QR Lucero small
Kuota Kalibur small
Kestrel Airfoil Pro 52
Cannondale Slice 51

I think the 2 best bikes that fit me were the Lucero small and the Slice 51…both are short reach. I have a very short torso and long arms.

5’7 and ride a small shiv nosecone, 51 boo, and med sworks singlespeed (rare frame, couldn’t find a small and it works). that being said, i have also ridden a 54 cm felt b2 (old geometry). but in the end, it’s the bike that fits you.
