50 Degrees out what do you wear to keep you warm?

Let me hear it **for the bike **

Here’s what I ended up wearing…not too many peeps had posted before I left so I winged it

Specialized Tri Vent Shoes
Nike Dri Fit Calf Socks
Compression Calf Sleeves
Tri Bottoms
Brooks Long Tights
Arm Warmers
Tight Short Sleeve Base Layer
T-Shirt
Short Sleeve Jersey
Gore Wind Stopper Arm Sleeves
Helmet Shades
Full Finger Gloves

Was out for around 20 miles…little over an hour and I felt fine…the wind was rather nasty though. Heading out for found 2 with the GF

Bike or run?

Bike:
Craft Pro Warm under a Craft run jacket
Tri shorts under Sugoi Tights
Thick socks and Toe warmers

Run:
Long sleeve run shirt
Shorts
Regular socks

50 degrees is perfect weather!

for running - shorts, and short sleeves.

for the bike - winter socks, arm warmers, knee warmers, thin short-sleeve or tank-top base layer under the jersey. If you’re not warm after 5 minutes you’re not riding hard enough.

Would agree with all of the above, except for the winter socks. Normal socks suffice for me @ 50*. I also wear thin, long-fingered gloves and cap under my lid. Occasionally I may add a light vest, depending on how it “feels” outside (not all 50* days “feel” the same, ya know?).

oh yeah, definitely. Humidity and clouds have a big impact on how 50 feels. That’s why I bring the arm warmers, i can always take them off if i get too warm. Also, my winter socks are for a georgia winter, so not very thick!

arm warmers, thin baselayer under jersey, wind vest.
lycra shoe covers, light weight socks.

that is the WORST temperature, because when you start I want a full on fur coat and hazmat suit.

but then in the middle when the day has warmed up and you are pushing hard you don’t want anything

I bike everyday in 40 degrees (or a bit less) to 50 (grrrr… where is spring?). Since I have very little equipment, I wear regular socks, a long pants bib, and a simple long sleeves top covered by a small Zoot tri jacket. I get too warm quickly and sweat under the jacket and can drop it, but it’s nice when I start and it’s 37. My feet do stay cold, but nothing too bad. Winter socks or booties might be on my list some day  And I don’t like cold, in case you wonder. The only bad part is my fingers, as my middle finger is splinted so the only gloves that fit one of my hands have cut fingers, and THAT is really cold under 40.

EXACTLY…that’s why I’ve been so pissed here lately…it’s always 50-60Degs…the worst temp

I can deal with cold and hot…no problem…but when comfort changes throughout the ride, that SUCKS. I’m cold, wait, I’m hot, damn, it’s cold now, geez frickin hot, ugh, freezing again…DAMMIT!

the garage

Sunny and 50 knee warmers and arm warmers, probably no gloves, no hat, no shoe covers

Rainy and 50 leg warmers or tights, thicker arm warmers and a base layer, hat and shoe covers. Probably gloves.

I like to be warm so I wear pretty much the same thing at 50 I would at 40.

Voler bib tights
Nike dri-fit t-shirt
light long sleeve jersey
heavy Pearl Izumi jersey/jacket that is wind proof and has a bit of nap on the inside (don’t remember the model name).
shoe covers
REI full fingered gloves.
If I’m feeling particularly wimpy or it is windy, I might wear a hat under my helmet.

Road with this combo last weekend at 52 and light rain for an hour and staid warm.

In all seriousness, wearing a cap under your helmet will go a long way to keeping you warmer with fewer clothes. I wear a skullcap anytime it drops under 60*…but I am also bald.

My goal is to make every ride feel like its 85 and sunny.

long finger gloves
Long sleeve UnderArmor shirt
Short sleeved jersey
bibknickers
medium socks
toe covers

We’ve had a long winter… My recovery ride on Monday (high of 51) was in my regular summer kit with light jacket, shoe covers, and windstopper gloves. Bare legs. It snowed all day the next day.

for the bike - winter socks, arm warmers, knee warmers, thin short-sleeve or tank-top base layer under the jersey. If you’re not warm after 5 minutes you’re not riding hard enough.

x3. I usually add a really lightweight windvest to start out if it isn’t sunny.

X2 except for the arm warmers and shoe covers. After this winter that’s outside non wetsuit weather .

Here in Wisco thats bibs and short sleeve jersey with MAYBE a wind vest!!!

We haven’t had consistent 50’s here since last October!

Training or racing?

Last two weekends I’ve done two sprint tris - both were early morning right at 50 degrees. For both I wore just a tri suit for the entire race and not once was I cold (except waiting for the start of the race - I was freezing then).
