I’m in the market for a new wetsuit. I consider myself a mediocre swimmer (1:50ish 70.3 pace). I’m 5â€11 155. I’m looking for a full sleeve wetsuit that is more buoyancy focused. I’m currently using a Xterra vengeance, but it’s on its last leg. I haven’t been thrilled with it, but it’s got the job done so far. There so many options out there would love some input.
I have a Roka sleeveless (I don’t remember exactly which model), and a Zoot Bolt. They seem equal to me as far as buoyancy, but the Zoot is way more flexible (therefore more comfortable and easier to get on/off). I was worried that since the Zoot was so flexible the arms would be less durable, but that hasn’t been the case. It is a couple of seasons old, and still going strong. The Roka one is even older and still in great shape too. You can find wetsuits from both of these companies well within your price range. Roka has one “maximum buoyancy” wetsuit, but I haven’t tried that one personally.
I still wear both suits for training, but I race in the Zoot one.
The roka maverick pro would be in that range when on sale, I like it more than the comp but it’s more fragile

The Vengeance isn’t hugely buoyant. What about the Arena suits, they do some great ones. I’ve just bought one, really good quality.
There are a small number of ones that would stand the test of time and be good. I know many have had or are having sales of last year’s models (BlueSeventy, which is. a nice suit). Otherwise a good used suit always is a good option. I have 3 used ones that are fast and as new but I’m moving to a new brand for the year. Fit and feel is so important and also buy a good brand as the years of use will justify the cost.
Crappy swimmer, really happy with my Orca 3.8. Buoyancy and full length. Thicker in thighs and torso, but Yamamoto 40 in shoulder with good flexibility. A little more than you want to pay at full price, but can likely get deal on older models.
Check out the midline ranges from Blue 70, HUUB, Aquaman, Orca, TYR, Roka.
I think the HUUB aegis is one of the best wetsuits on the market right now. Aquaman makes great wetsuits, just terrible to no marketing in the US (although that could change now that Andre from Kiwami USA is behind the brand)
HUUB runs sales often, sign up for their newsletter. IMO HUUB is one of the most innovative & fastest tri brands globally. I can admit, I have a crush on them!
My quintana Roo suit feels like you’ve got a pull bouy between your legs while swimming. Very buoyant, may even bother a really good swimmer which I am not.
I’ve always been happy with my QR wetsuits. I currently have a HydroSix. It fits me well for my somewhat slender build, 5"10, 155 lbs. HydroSix and HydroFive are on sale in your price range. My training partner swears by his Aquaman but I have never tried their suits.
You can check our collection at Aquaman (www.aquamantri.com). The Bionik is a fantastic wetsuit and with the st coupon SWIMFAST20, you get 20% off at checkout.
Fyi, Aquaman has just been chosen as Official Wetsuit Partner of Triathlon Canada. We do make some of the best wetsuits on the market : )
Do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
