Faster than some people on ST and faster than I ran/walked in my first IM. Weight loss achievement aside, he ran this marathon basically solo with only camera crews driving along side. Hope his time doesn’t hurt any egos Let the ST bashing begin…

Is that the “before” pic of “him”?
Is that her natural hair or a perm. It has a nice soft looking curl to it. Yes pink is in order.
That kid can actually run. I’m not 100% sure , but the last time I saw the show i think he only goes about 195lbs now.
I found the ‘after’:

Gawd carrot top just makes me cringe.
I will admit to watching the show. Daris is from Ardmore, OK, about 1.5 hours from my house and like me attended Oklahoma State University.
Give Daris credit, he had a nice run and crushed my first mary time, and I was at 185lbs.
This is certainly not taking anything away from the guy but as I was trying to rationalize his time I could only come up with one thing: fat guy strength. The dude has been training for 8 hours a day for five months, lugging around that huge ass body. 195lbs is nothing for his legs, add his desire to succeed, and both the mental and physical pieces are there.
The more interesting thing was seeing him run with Matt Whatshisface that was given the Kona slot. He looked like a giant slug. Seeing him and the others who have gained the weight back just piss all over their second chance is insane and an insult to those who provided them the opportunity.
Unfortunately, Daris gained 2lbs while doing his marathon training. The trainers were at a loss for words when he dropped the “I gained weight because I was too busy training for the marathon to focus on weight loss.” WTF.
The guy was moving right along and unlike some of the biggest loser marathons in the past where you saw contestants hanging out in tents, getting massaged/iced and basically relaxing in between walking segments he was focused.
My only bash is that these people get invites to Kona all the time, DNF races I’d love to run and always say the same thing ‘I discovered in 4 months(after a lifetime of not caring) how much I love to run/do tris/climb everest’ knowing that they’ll get let in no problem while people that have loved the same thing for years and lifetimes do not.
Might as well go eat a KFC double down to start my trianing for Kona!

These people? Who? Biggest Loser contestants? Once.
If you mean celebrities/sports stars/ex-pro cyclists/corporate sponsors, then OK.

I think the kid has some new found natural talent and endurance. As far as gaining 2 lbs during marathon training, big deal, you got to eat to recover, etc. Think how much of that 195 lbs is excess skin. If he eventually has surgery to have it removed, he will be one fast mf’r. I hope he keeps it up to see how far/fast he can really go.
Why do you have to steal my thunder clm! ![]()
From what I’ve noticed contestants on the biggest loser need only mention that they want to do a triathlon/marathon and they are getting invites and passes to a lot of dream races. May be completely baseless but it upsets me.

Do all fatties that lose a lot of weight have this problem? Of course it’s their own fault for allowing themselves to get to the point that their skin is so stretched out that it can’t tighten back up.

Daris with a Top Ten
.
Then you’ll really be tweaked out about a whole bunch of them doing Treasure Island tri here in July! ![]()
clm
I’ll get tweaked when it’s in CO. For now, their your problem!
Then again if they let them into Escape from Alcatraz…
That is also great news on Daris still running, I’m impressed that he is concerned with his fitness goals along with the other gray team member who was voted off and achieved his goal weight and isn’t trying to starve himself to win money. This is probably the best season my wife an I have watched in 3 years.

That is fantastic!!! I loved this guy on the show and really enjoyed his personality.
Good to see he has really turned it around.

I think I understand what he was saying. I was mad at the trainers for having no clue what he was talking about. I’m just a cyclist, (road racer) so maybe I cannot completely relate, but I cannot recover as well when I am going for a caloric deficit. This goes for sub-FTP periods and also race season. I also never have more than 5-6 pounds to lose, whereas he still has some excess. Still though, he was probably putting in 40-60 (?) miles a week on a body not yet used to that, as evidenced by the knee brace he had to wear.
ALSO, while he was home for a month, he was likely only running. He was used to 4-8 hour days in the gym, sure, but after an hour or two of running he may have no been doing much else, like lower-impact cardio or weights. His training schedule was to run the best possible marathon, not to lose the most weight. If he would have diversified, to burn more calories and be active more hours out of each day, he likely wouldn’t have ran as fast.

x2
Someone said that he was running 10 miles per day while training for this marathon. I did the math. Other contestants lost 12 lbs during this month. That’s a 1400 calorie/day deficit. I cannot imagine even trying to run 10 miles a day on a 1400 calorie deficit.
He overate by 233 calories per day. Yeah, he should work on that a bit. But in the long term, becoming a “runner” is a much healthier lifestyle choice, than careful counting your calories. If I put money on it, I’d say that Darris (the runner) is among the least likely in the competition to put his weight back on.
As for the two pounds he gained, almost surely that was muscle, and he had a net-fat loss.
I guess that they don’t run the show based on body fat% because it’s much more difficult for the general public to understand. But that would be a much more fair way of handling it.
Who should care if Sam or Darris gained a couple of pounds, if those were pounds of muscle?
Gotta give respect to that.
My first reaction was “what’s the big deal - that’s really, really slow!”, but when I consider how big that guy is, and coming from a nonrunning background, that’s a really, really impressive result.
Props.
