3t Fork insert question

If an insert has been glued into a 3t funda fork, how much lower can I go from the top of the insert to the top of the fork?
Thanks.

I think 2cm was the consenus (and perhaps what the 3T manual said) when the last time this question was asked.

If I wanted to go low enough lower, could I just cut off the bit that has the insert glued and then glue a new one lower? Or is this just crazy talk?
Anyone know how long the insert is, roughly?

call up cervelo customer service- they are very friendly with their bike tech. the insert is 75mm- I just measured it- as I’m building up a P2C for a friend. Also- the insert is often cut down a little bit- by shops after it is glued in (for a flush fit with the fork top cap) and you are dialed in with your size. So you may want to pause- if you don’t know the the history of the insert. Unless there was a huge amount of fork steerer showing- with lots of spacers above your stem- or the shop cut down the insert dramatically- it’s probably crazy talk. If it’s not crazy talk- you could cut off the insert- and just use one of these: http://store.icyclesusa.com/fsa-aheadset-stem-top-cap-compressor-plug-1-18-p8405.aspx However cutting 7.5cm off the steerer- will probably render the fork steerer tube, too short for your frame…

Thanks for all the great advice. The fork is meant to go from a big road frame to a smaller tt frame, so there just might be 7.5cm to loose. The FSA part is great–I didn’t know that existed.
Many thanks.

you might be lucky if it’s a very big frame to a smaller frame…!
