Does anyone know if a 36T 130mm BCD small chain ring exists, preferrably in black? I just switched out my 50/34 110mm BCD cranks for a 130mm set using 50/38, and I find my self yearning for 4 less teeth on the hills, so I’m hoping I can get half way there with a 36. Thanks.
I’m afraid that the swap was a bad idea. 38 is the smallest you can go on 130mm. Have a look at how close the teeth are to the bolts - can’s go within that
Thanks. I was afraid of that. I’m sure I’ll get by, but it would have been nice to have.
Why did you get rid of the compact crank?
You can get larger than 50T chainrings for the 110mm.
I was building up a new TT frame and last year I used a set of Stronglight Pulsion compacts on my TT bike (50/34, Flame away). I tried those on my new frame and there was an interference issue with the non-drive side crank and chain stay. So when I bought a different crank, I decided to get a big boy set, and went with the 130mm FSA K-force. I rode the bike today on some pretty steep hills, and was longing for my 34. That said, they aren’t typical of the races I do so I should be fine. If I ever find myself doing LP again, I’ll likely get a set of the FSA compacts, but for 90% of my racing a 50/38 should be fine.
I think 38 is as small as the chainring can be on a 130 as any smaller and the holes are up where the teeth go. So that is a big no can do I am afraid.
