30 minutes to work out - what do you do?

So, a co-worker asked me the other day - “I have 30 minutes to work out today - what will give me the most bang for my buck in those 30 minutes?”

What would you say in 2 senarios -

  1. Access to a gym for those 30 minutes

  2. No gym access

I don’t think she had gym access that day and told her to go for a run. Get in the aerobic time and don’t worry about much else, but I’m pretty certain you womens(and the occasional mens) can give me some better ideas.

What do you think?

(edited for horrible spelling)

Run. Or swim.

“what will give me the most bang for my buck in those 30 minutes?”

a nooner… : )

or…running is probably the most efficient workout on limited time…quicker to get out the door…good calorie burn/aerobic…

to step it up run easy 5 minutes, hard 5 minutes…repeat…to increase conditioning and calorie burn…

It only took 2 respsonses for the sexual innuendo… figured it would happen the first reply!

30 min run with strides
.

Either way, RUN.

x-country ski or rollerskiing.

A hard run of some kind - intervals, hills, tempo run.

Run

Hard
.

What’s funny is that I told her to run - she kind of rolled her eyes as though she didn’t want to… guess I’ll tell her that was the consensus of the womens and she should buck up and run!

Thanks all!

What kind of bang? (No Steve-O, not that.)

Run for cardio/weight control.

Weights for strength.

Or, 20 minute treadmill run and 10 minutes upper body lifting.

clm

Run

Hard

How about a morner. It’s like a nooner but sooner

How about a morner.

Personally, I like moaners over morners?

I would say the weights, run or swim- although 30 for a swim is really short with changing and drying off- is a shower really necessary?

no gym necessary. lunge up and down a hill for 20 minutes, then do some pilates. FWIW, i consider 30 minutes more than enough time to exercise effectively. heck, i have a 10 minute workout that often makes me shake for an entire day, but i digress.

here is my lunge mania workout that takes 20 minutes or less. it’s an ass buster too.

-walking lunge front, pull up toes in the show to target glute.
sprint back
-walking lunge front, pull up heel off the ground to targe quads
sprint back
-walking lunge wide to the side, like a sumo squat.
sprint back
-walking lunge wide to the side, lead with the other leg this time
sprint back
-walking lunge backwards and pup off the front foot
sprint back

rest a couple of minutes

lay on ground, hands under lower back or more advanced lay them strait out to the sides. put legs up in the air and lower barly to the ground, do 3 or 4 sets of 10. each set try to lower slower.

to make this workout more advanced, put hands on head (like getting arrested, LOL) or hold arms straight out to the side during lunges. super advanced is to hold palms up, arms straight out, with a small ball balanced in the palm.

these are the kinds of workout i do now, it is fast, challenging and no gym required.

another thought - rowing - which has been one of my new favorite things lately. 30 min of rowing is a really good workout.

Bike+Trainer+ the right coach Troy DVD can put a hurting on some people.

+1. I used to do some killer 30 minutes sessions rowing at the gym.
