2xu Compression Tri Shorts Bleeding

Hello, I have a pair of the 2xu compression tri-shorts (http://www.2xu.com/product/999/Compression-Tri-Short/278/7) and they fit and feel great, but have now bled onto 2 different saddles (a white fizik arione tri2 and a white Adamo prologue), turning them a grey/blue color. They did not bleed on my training rides but did so on the Arione2 during an Olympic and, although I thought they were done bleeding, turned the nose of my new Adamo blue during a 70.3 this past weekend. I have never had this happen with any other biking or tri shorts. This is my first pair of 2xu shorts, and although I like the fit, for $130 I don’t think they should bleed like this.

  1. Anyone have similar issues?
  2. Any ideas on how to get the saddles back to white?
  3. Any ideas on how to prevent further bleeding?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is it “that time of the month” for them?

Did you look for any open wounds?

You should try elevating them (above the level of your heart) with light compression, and some clean gauze bandages.

OK - wiseass commentary aside, I’ve never had issues like that w/ either pair of 2XU tri shorts I’ve owned (but - they are the older style, not the new compression ones).
Also, I don’t have a white saddle, so for all I know, maybe they “bleed” like a stuck pig, and I’ve just never noticed it?

Maybe just let them soak in a sink for a while? It only seems to happen when they are fully soaking wet from swimming, rather than from “just” riding, correct?
No harm in trying that.

As for getting saddles back to white, I’m sure more knowledgable folks will chime in later.
I’d try bleach or OxyClean or similar.

Good luck.

Same problem with the same shorts. It also continues to happen after 3-4 sprints even though they were washed afterward.

The staining on my Adamo did come off a little after some rides with my cycling shorts.

Yep - it only seems to happen off of a swim when they are soaking wet. The most frustrating thing was I thought they had “bled out” and were done after putting about 15 rides/washings on them before riding them on the new saddle.

I will try soaking them in warm water for an extended period to see if that pulls the dye out.

I am guessing there is no easy solution to getting the black out of the saddle as it seems to be similar to getting dye on vinyl boat seats. I have found that with the boat seats, you essentially have to sit them in the sun so it fades out over time. I have some Malco vinyl cleaner that I will try - I am just afraid some of the harsher stuff will hurt the material.

with normal cotton material, vinegar in water will “set” the color but I am not sure if it would harm compression material…

Me too. First time I’ve ever had this problem. Anyone from 2xu on this forum or have you contacted customer support?

I have not contacted them yet, but I think I will. I found some reviews on Amazon that suggest this is a common problem. Unfortunately, the reviews also suggest that 2xu was not very responsive. Perhaps if several people report the problem they will do something about it.

Try Magic Eraser to get the seat white again. Ive used it on permanent marker and it worked.

Same thing happened to me. I turned my white saddle black and ruined a white leather kitchen chair after the first ride. Never had any other shorts bleed before so I didn’t even think to check first. But here’s how I handle these sort of things… I just mentally group 2XU as a synonym for poor quality control and never buy their sorry shit again. There are plenty of other top quality manufacturers out there that will test their material before they pawn it off on the unsuspecting public.

2XU were really helpful when I contacted them about this. They are a distributor and had no way of knowing about the problem until after the goods arrived. Faulties will happen sometimes, but given how much stuff they sell I reckon they do a great job. I love my wetsuit, compression tights and trisuit from them, and will continue to use their stuff despite this blip.

I have had alot of problems with 2xu tri shorts.

The stitches seams to be in the wrong places, got reallt big wounds from them.

I’m having the same problem. Did anyone figure out a way to deal with this? These are my favorite pair of Tri Shorts, but if they keep bleeding like this I won’t be able to wear them.
