I’m new - Doing my first triathlon on Sunday. I currently do a fair bit of cycling on the road, as well as running at the gym. Not much swimming at all. I have singlets, normal running/gym shorts, cycling bib shorts, jerseys etc.
Just bought some 2XU Compression Shorts from Rebel Sport - However, I’m not sure if they are suitable for the bike and/or swimming. The girl told me they should be OK but I just thought I’d check. I’m thinking of using these for swimming/cycling/running, and just chucking a running singlet on for cycling and running after the swim. There’s no mesh/liner that I can see in the shorts, so I assume they should dry out pretty quickly.
Bump - Kind of urgent as I’m at the store now. I’m not sure if the compression shorts are a good idea - if Tri doesn’t interest me then I’m left with shorts that won’t be too comfortable on the bike. Having said that, I’m not sure if cycling shorts are a great choice either, because I know they will make the swi a lot harder. And tri shorts are expensive, but I guess an OK compromise no matter which path I take…
I have a pair. I use to run in only because I like the compression. Using on the bike might be uncomfortable due to lack of pad. You can find closeouts online for inexpensive tri shorts. Good luck
For sprints, I do the whole race in jammers, so I think your compression shorts should be OK for a sprint. For anything longer, you might want something with a tri pad.
It is always good to try these things out before race day just to make sure.

It’s just a short sprint
I took the compression shorts back. I don’t think they would be suitable for swimming OR cycling much at all.
Still open to ideas. The tri is on this Sunday.
Still sort of tossing up between tri shorts (expensive) or multisport jammers… Both of which I am having trouble finding in local shops (Sydney, Australia)
I have used 2xu tri shorts for 2 Half IM’s this year - no issues at all - fine in the water and the bike - and I love running in them - have used them for a bunch of local 5k’s. But I can go with dickstickers.
