2XU compression short sizing

Is anybody else using the 2XU compression shorts? I got a pair today, size S, which is for a waist size 28-31 (according to their charts), I am size 30. However, they are not particularly tight, they wrinkle on the leg, and the compressions stockings I was wearing after surgery earlier this year (which I use for reference on compression, as they seemed to work pretty well) are noticeably tighter.
So I’m wondering if 2XU’s sizing is running big, or they maybe had a ‘big’ production run that is hitting the stores now. What are others experiences with 2XU’s compresion shorts sizing?

Hi,

In my experience with selling and using their compression shorts, tights and tops I have found that they run large for their claimed size target.

I am 6-3, 178lb and rarely use anything other than XL in 2XU’s offerings. In compression I end up with Large tops and Medium (!) tights, large shorts.

So yes, drop down to XS.

Hi guys,
thanks for the info on sizings. We agree that to get maximum benefit a size down is recommended especially for post event, we are going to adjust sizing in the next 2 months to see to this issue, and explain the correct sizings for both recovery and during training. As from our very recent research they do differ.
Kind regards

I had a similar problem and was not able to fix it. The compression tights were very high quality, but they just weren’t tight enough. I’m 155, 5’10", and I tried both the S and the XS. Neither felt particularly different than an ordinary running tight. Any sizing system that has me in an XS has something wrong with it.

Good luck,
-C

Thanks Jamie.

Could you share how amount of compression applied differs between training and recovery according to your research? Between the lines I seem to read that for recovery it should be tighter (1 size down), suggesting that for training it would be less? If so, the size S compression shorts I purchased would be the correct fit (30 inch waist, 5’10", 160 pounds), however I can’t tell any difference from any other running shorts (lycra) I own/use. If my above assumption (less compression for training) is correct, how does one determine the optimal amount (if that exists)?

I am 6’ 173# 32 waist and using 2XU Compression tights in size M.
They fit great and serve their purpose very well.
I am very happy with the quality and I would buy them again.

While you are working out the blood flow is already very high so the main benefit of compression is muscle stability. During recovery tights major benefit is the increased bloodflow. You need to have a pressure rating of above at least 20mm/hg which if you are inside our sizing chart you will hit, however a size down may raise this to upwards of 25mm/hg.
With shorts the recovery factor is very minimal. With receovery you really need to wear tights. I am not a huge advocate for shorts unless they are more muscle stability.
