2nd jump off point at IMLou?

After re-reading the email sent to all competitors I saw that they have moved the bike cut off time back 30 minutes and created a second jumping off point for the swim. They say this will ensure that everyone gets in the water under 30 minutes. Anyone know where this point will be? Will there be 2 lines now, or one that splits close to entry?

Thanks

I’ve been rewatching the coverage from last year and the dock that they jumped off of last year is in a row of a bunch of docks. My guess is you will just jump from the next dock in the row. It’s probably like 25 feet apart. If that’s the case I really hope no one complains about that. If you do you shouldnt be doing Ironman cause your too much of a whiner.

If one dock is 25 feet closer to the swim finish then those that use it should not be called Ironmen and did not do a 140.6. They should put a sticker on their car that says 140.5995 and have their own finish chute.

TV coverage or internet? I’d like to see that ish.

TV coverage from last year. I actually just watched it again to verify what I said. At 9 minutes in they show the 2 bouys in the water for the pro start and they pan a little bit up stream and you can see multiple docks all about 25 feet (or so it looks on TV) apart. I don’t see how else they can do this but I havent been down there to see it yet.

The other thing is they’ve said no lining up until 5AM, wonder if tthey’ll be 2000 people just milling around and then rush into line with the blow of a whistle. Idunno…

Here’s what I think the plan is going to be. Go off 2 piers, the one from last year (#2) and the one immediately before it (#1). For those going off on the #1, they will have to jump in near the beginning of the pier, not the end, and swim through the boat slip. Those going off #2 will go off where they did last year, on the end. That should make up for the difference in distance.

Now, the problem is going to be all the Type A’s fighting to go off #1 because they think getting in the water 5.4 seconds faster than those off #2 is going to make a difference in their 15 hour race.

That what im thinking with the two dock. So once we snake around to the docks (like last year) the line will split, one to dock #2 and one to dock #1. I bet most poeple will want to be going off #1 so there could be a traffic jam for #1. Who knows. We will have to see when we get there. Oh the taper madness

Unless you are an uber-swimmer or at least a FOP swimmer who does not want to fight their through the masses during the swim, I can’t imagine why anyone would line up at 5AM (or even before 6AM). Even as Type A as I am, that still sounds crazy. I understand that starting later in the swim means more to people to get around on the bike (if you are a stronger biker) but that just makes me feel like I’m making more progress! I guess it’s hard to convince a bunch of Type As about to do an Ironman to relax.

**in their 15 hour race. **

Are you talking about me?!

If I was talking about you, I would have said 15 DAY race…

Good luck, I am sure I will see or talk to you before then. I am probably working the Gatorade swim on Friday, not Sat. Then swim start on Sunday. At some point I will be out on the run course with my cooler drinking beer and yelling encouraging words like “get your fat ass in gear” or “why even bother when you look like that running”.

x2 Todd. Best thing I did first year was get there late and go off at the very end. Bike felt great, even if my time wasn’t.

Did you find getting around all those bikes on the course a problem if you went last. I will swim 1:00 or so, so will passs alot on the swim, but think it would be motivating to pass people all day long. Since Im a better swimmer I usually spend the bike getting passed by FOPers , so wondering what it would be like to pass peopole instead.

I didn’t think it was an issue. 2 sections were iffy. The out and back, and the section on 393 going up to the special needs section. I was almost taken out by a participant coming up that hill. Funny, this same guy became quite infamous from that race on here because of his trip to the med tent/hospital as I recall. I only know that because 1. he has a common and famous name, and 2. I said something to him about his littering.

Hmmm … did everyone doing the race get this email? I haven’t received any communication from the race at all.

You have been pre-emptively DQ’ed for excessive drafting. New policy. Sorry.
