Holy crap! That seems very soon. How is everyone doing? I am feeling pretty good, surviving epicman has given me some confidence going in. The long solo bike rides are getting old at this point. Happy that my wife is still talking to me. It is now to the “I do not have to always be happy about the fact that you will be gone for X hours” stage. Excited about Tupper Lake next week and then a nice long taper.
One month from today!!!
Wooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooo
I’ve been haveing trouble staying focused since Epicman. Doing some racing this weekend and next to break this rut. Tupper lake is going to be sweet.
I am doing ok. Got some foot pain, but nothing that 3 or 4 Aleeve cant solve. I’ll be ready. Two more solid weeks and taper, finally.
Can’t believe it’s been almost a year ago… Last night my wife was looking at the 2006 calendar and she said “last year this Saturday you had a 7 hour workout”…
1 year later I’m lucky to be able to ride for 2 - 3 hours without being exausted. IM training really is amazing…
Good luck all.
“Happy that my wife is still talking to me”
I hear you… The upcoming taper and recovery period is not only for us but actually for the whole familly…
Cheers,
Fred.
Woo Hoo!! Bring it on!
It took me a couple of weeks to recover from TTT, plus I got sick. I’m better now and still looking forward to my long workouts. Doing a big day tomorrow with the Race4Kids folks - 6 hour ride (or possibly more) and 45 minute run. Did my first 100 miler last Saturday with a 45 minute run after. I can’t believe it’s only 1 month away!!
Training is going amazing. I am in LP right now, just got back from swimming. The weather kind of sucks, cold and rain, but I geuss it is good mental toughness training. There are a ton of other athletes up here right now.
Hells yeah baby, one month to go!! I’m finishing up the second of back-to-back big weeks. I’m pretty tired, but it’s a good tired, I’m feeling really good, like I’m getting stronger at the end. I can’t wait.

Feeling OK (knocking on wood as I type), going back up to LP next week for a few days to get some more time on the course.
Waaaaaay behind in where I would like to be for this years race. Family, house, work, commute, etc… It’ll be a long day for me out on the course in lake placid. My hope is to get a couple of good hard weeks of training in before tapering. I’m shooting for 6 to 7 hours on the bike tomorrow. Long outside swim Sunday.
I’m trying to figure out if theres a way i get up to lake placid next weekend to ride the course. My wife is signed up and is very nervous about missing the cut off on the bike.
Spent last weekend in LP and the reality of the long day to come is beginning to set-in. Feeling pretty good for the home stretch now though.
I’m pretty excited. As usual, as the event gets closer, I start to panic that I’m undertrained, but I did set a PR by 32 minutes at the Rockman HIM…I went 5:32, and would have been a few minutes faster with better transitions and without an unfortunate panic/hyperventilation attack on the swim. My plan is to get a couple 50 milers in this weekend, along with an hour long open water swim, followed by a century ride next weekend, exactly 3 weeks out. After that its taper city, baby!

I’m a little late to join the party just made my way in last sunday…“better late then never”.
I was trilled after Epicman and Muskoka, but since monday, i’m worried “What the heck was I thinking when I decided to take the spot? This is freaking long day coming up in one month”.
Hope everyone stays healthy and shows up in their best shape,
Alex
One month out and this is my final monster weekend. After this the running volume comes down. Instensity in all sports goes up. Biking volume still stays up for 2 more weeks…swimming volume goes up to replace some running. Caffeine dissappears for the final 2 weeks. No runs longer than 8 miles from 14-8 days out…no runs longer than 3 miles with 7 days to go! 30 days from now, I will likely be in line signing up with Konaexpress for the 10 Ironman Lake Placid…hopefully I finish my 9th Ironman Lake Placid in one piece ![]()
Folks, don’t do anything silly this weekend that pushes you way over the top and digs you into a hole that you cannot bounce out of. You want to be recovered from this wekend’s training in 2-3 days so that you can pile on some intensity. People doing Ironman, get too trapped into shuffling endless miles slowly and then wonder why they can’t do “endless miles FAST” on race day…well, you’ve done the endless miles…soon it will be time to sharpen things, focus on going faster, and resting more!

Spot, schedule permitting, do the long century this weekend, and next weekend, focus on two 50-70 milers and do them really hard at half Ironman race intensity. You can revv up your speed in a few weeks, but you won’t change your endurance. That is taken care of by now.
Wow you really cut back that much on running huh? How many days a week do you run during those weeks?
Dev
Sounds like very good advice. I was planning to really have a go at it over the next couple of weekends, but your saying that perhaps that’s wrong.
I’ve been progressing with the long slow miles… 60, 70, 80 each weekend with some shorter although faster rides mid week. My plan is to ride 90ish this weekend followed by a 30-45 min run, and then increase my mileage to 100 the following weekend followed by an hour run, before tapering. During the taper, I planned to drop mileage by 30-40% per week, but slightly increase intensity of those rides. Might be a bad idea… I’m thinking too much to recover from quickly.
Hmmmm…you might be right. I went back and looked at what I did last year preparing for Moo, and I did my last long ride almost exactly a month out. Maybe I’ll do 30-40 tomorrow and then 100 on Sunday.

**Caffeine dissappears for the final 2 weeks. **
That’s just crazy talk! The only reason I can ever think of to give up caffeine is a pregnancy. I did that twice and now I’ll be caffeinated until I die. ![]()
