Ironically, it’s not the size tyre but the pressure that dictates comfort. The reason you need a bigger tyre is because reducing pressure the same amount on a small tyre would make you vulnerable to pinch punctures.
Now a few bits of missing information required to give a useful answer.
Clinchers?What specific tyre and what dimensions are the rims? 28mm is a nominal size, the actual size will depend on the specific tyre and the internal width of the rim.What do you weigh? Heavier requires more pressureWhat sort of bike? Tri bike puts you further forward than road bike so tyres would probably be more even in terms of pressure
May also want to consider whether you want best rolling resistance, best comfort or something on the spectrum in between.
I’m running 28 (treaded touring) tires on my road bike at the moment. I’ve just been too lazy to swap them out after the winter/spring transition riding.
The tubes are 18-23 (and that works fine).
I’m using 60psi (my weight = 170Lb).
How much do you weigh (with the bike) and what is the actual measured width of the tire?
