221 lbs and a 2:54 marathon!

My friend just completed Philly with this time.

I find this amazing. Anybody else out there know of anyone that fast at that weight? I can’t imagine that there are many that can pull this off.

No idea how big or fast Nick Barre is, but he is both very big and very fast.

How tall?

There’s a difference between 221 at 5’6" and 6’2" for instance

Sorry. 6’0"

Friend has a marathon PR of 2:29… and he’s also over 200lbs.

He’s 6’3" (maybe taller) and isn’t carrying any extra poundage.

Zdendo Chara - 6’9’’ Retired NHL defensemen and listed at 255lbs ran London this year in 3:11, and did so only 6 days after running Boston

bmi needs to be factored here… 6’9"@255 = 5’9"@185

Well you just crossed one more excuse off for why my running is so ass. 6’0" 180# and a 3 hour marathon is not in my future (yet?)

I coach a guy who ran 2:38 last year at around 230 lbs. He is 6’7" behemoth but one of the nicest dudes on the planet. Also at the Philly Marathon.

Does it really matter? Its still a slow time. It’s like saying “this 5’6” person can dunk and play NBA". It really does not matter if the person is 5’6", if they can dunk and play NBA that is cool, if they can’t then the bigger guys are just better at basketball. Likewise, 2:54 is a slow time in the big picture. Good for the person and it is impressive “for his size” but there is no entry for weight beside the times in the finish sheet.

Having said that. This guy must have crazy brute force. He would be awesome at a 4000m team pursuit guy on the cycling track as he has endurance and lots of brute topline watts. Or he would be awesome in a rowing 8 man crew.

Some races have Clyde/ athena division. Supershoe craze also really helping bigger runners

The Eagles used to have a RB named Darren Sproles; 5’6", 190 lbs

That’s FIFTY pounds more than me, also 5’6"

I often wondered ‘how in the world could a person my size carry an extra 50 lbs, and still be super fit?’

Not that I’d want to, mind you

And Nick Bare is very drugged. PEDs galore!

You can get there. I ran sub 2:50 at 190 and there were other finishers around me with similar or higher BMI.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Slowly my speed is increasing, it just takes time and dedication. When I think about where am now versus last year its almost incredible.
